slotnewbie69 02-17-2009, 11:56 AM how hard is it to swap motor pods?i imagine i am going to get smoked by the faster slot.it cars at our track, and would love to have two motors i could swap back and forth.is this possible?i have an inline scx,and a hornby sidewinder, both monte carlos
If I recall correctly, the SCX cars are setup with tabs that allow you to "quick disconnect" motors. If that is the case, provided the motor you swap out is the same size physically and has tabs, it would just be a matter of getting the body of, popping the motor out of its holder/clip, pull the wires and install the new motor using the reverse order. Of and of course the new motor needs to have a pinion already mounted on the motor shaft and ready to mesh up with the crown gear when installed.
If the wires are soldered on, then you of course will have that challenge of having a hot iron on stand by. If the motor is incased in a pod or is mounted to the motor pod with a screw or two, then you have that challenge. If you don't have more than one pinion gear, then that means you have to pull the pinion off the old motor and then install it on the new motor - that will take some time.
It just all depends on the setup you are work with. Technically, its possible. How quickly or easily? It all depends.

slotnewbie69 02-18-2009, 01:53 PM there are no wires, its all set up like an ho car, with metal contact points, sprung from the motor pod to ensure good contact.no soldering necessary!will see if i can find hotrod parts with my next influx of slotdough.

That's right! It pops in and out and makes direct contact with metal tabs - I knew there was something about them that made it easy to remove the motor. Forgot about that.
Don't forget to get your pinion gear on the motor shaft of the motor you want to swap in and out - that way its just unscrewing the body, pop the old motor out, pop the new motor in and screw the body back on.
Cool deal!

slotnewbie69 02-19-2009, 08:59 PM the motor rests in a pod, that is connected via a pivot up front, and the axle assembly in the rear,i would assume on another pivot, that i can't see.i think due to the necessity of taking it all apart to remove the arm,i will leave well enough alone!that 2300 rpm motor is tempting,however....
ee_prof 02-20-2009, 09:34 AM SCX has a Pro Motor. Why not use that?
slotnewbie69 02-20-2009, 11:44 AM yeah thats the one i was considering.how much do they go for generally?

SCX Pro Speed 19,600 RPM/12v; tested 19,414(new), 20,717(run-in)RPM/12v
140 gcm/12v 6.9W/12v
slotnewbie69 02-22-2009, 04:34 PM the motor that comes stock is rated at 19 000 rpm,and the pro i saw on the link says 23 000 rpm.my motor has no writing on it like the pro.handles well, though.about the only other thing i would like on this car is more guide travel,as i like to drift.
sethndaddy 02-25-2009, 12:22 AM race slot it vs. slot it, plus, buy the extra slot it magnet, or buy a scalectrix and beef it up with a 30,000rpm motor (soldering required).
Big question is what kind of track are you running on, we run on Carrera, which seems to be totally different than Scalectric or Ninco.
slotnewbie69 02-25-2009, 11:07 AM we are running on routed track.mdf with copper tape, hand done by our buddy jay.we try to find cars that match each other in power, tires, etc.magnets don't work so,that,'s not an issue, anyway.
