Just a heads-up that Amazon has once again significantly discounted the Land of the Giants DVD set with the wooden cage box and other goodies. From the link at Ain't It Cool:

It's a great set Eric. The box and other items are a lot of fun (I believe much of which was provided by Fabgear's Anthony Taylor). But it's the discs themselves that are the real value. Even though they're double-sided, the picture and sound quality are generally excellent, on a par with the VTTBOTS releases. I bought the set at full price (I'm a LOTG fan from childhood) and wasn't disappointed!

yeah, I missed it last time. Even thought I really can't afford it right now, I couldn't pass this up. I'll really dig the Spindrift Keychain. I won't use it (for fear of beating it up) but, I will really get a kick out of it. I couldn't figure what the weird little fold up thing was though. What's that? And, I have not seen an unedited cut of the show since it was originally on TV. So, I'm a happy, if not more poor person now hahahahahaha....

If you are talking about the item to the right of the keychain, then that is the uniform patch. The design is reused from "Our Man Flint", where it was the Galaxy emblem.

Man thats still to much for just 2 seasons. It has been cheaper, the cheapest I have seen it is $69. If it was $50 I would bite. All the eps are on Hulu anyways. The qualitys not bad and its free.

I just finished watching the last disk today via Netflix. It's nice to see the price come down a bit, but still very pricey. I didn't know that the eps were available on Hulu, but I still enjoyed watching the series. It's been a long time since I've seen LOTG - the last time I saw any of it was back when the SciFi channel was still running Irwin Allen stuff on a regular basis.

It was quite a blast from the past to see LOTG and I was surprised to see how much the show held up for me. I think that watching the extras on the last disk was a real kicker - they had a pre-sale promo for LOTG that was done in a series of storyboards & footage that depicted the first episode. All of the miniatures footage showed the Jupiter 2 in flight, but the color storyboard art also showed the Jupiter 2 instead of the Spindrift. Even the silver spacesuits from LIS were depicted as the flight uniforms for Steve, Dan & Betty. Quite an eye opener.

The best bit was the unscreened pilot for LOTG - some of the scenes looked a bit longer than those used in the final broadcast cut. The show had a different opening theme and used LIS soundtrack music for the episode soundtrack. One of the things I enjoyed most about LOTG was the themes and soundtrack used in the series - I wish that more of it was available than just the one disk that was made.

Just got the set :) Watching them take on the giants with a safety pin and thread is a hoot. In some of the shots, I'm pretty amazed at the sophistication of the FX. They hold up pretty good for being 1968. Some mattes are bad, but, some are really good.
