View Full Version : T4 on Oval Dirt Track
T4sforme 02-10-2009, 11:51 PM My local rc track is going to turn there indoor track into a oval dirt track for a once a month race during the summer season. I have a T4 that I bought for parts that the chassis was modified for oval racing. The right side of the chassis was cut-off past the battery case and the battery was moved to the left of the chassis. I have everything to put it back together and was wondering if all you oval racers have some idea what class I could use the truck for? I know some of the racers are planning on running the losi eight late model, but I am not sure what other classes are out there? Any input would be helpful
Thx.
team-darkside 02-11-2009, 12:49 AM Well, depending on the classes they are running, I would say like stock truck or mod truck. At our track I run a T4 with a 27t with bsr or crc foams. I run a losi xxxt also I run it with either 13.5 or 10.5 in it. I like the trucks better than the touring car latemodels. The suspension soaks up the imperfections. You have to play with the springs and stuff untill you find a good setup to that track. The T4 is a good stable oval platform though. Good luck.:dude:
sbrady#0 02-11-2009, 07:27 PM yea find out what the track is running and then set up for that.
T4sforme 02-12-2009, 05:57 PM thx. for the replys. I posted this subject on the local forum where I will be racng and no one else seams to be interested in running electric. Looks like everyone is considering the losi eightL or gas truck. I also have a gt2 that I may convert to a late model?
grunt66 02-13-2009, 11:29 AM I run a 13.5 in my t4 you just have to find out what classes are going to be run at your track then tune for that class the T 4 is a great oval runner if tuned right and with a 13.5 is fast have fun and good luck
T4sforme 02-15-2009, 10:11 PM Well if everyone at my track runs gas truck. I was wondering if there is any advantage to putting a conversion kit from speedys racing parts? And what does it do? Lower CG?
Thx. for input
disruptor10 02-16-2009, 02:16 PM save your money use some associated shock spacers or fuel tubing in your shocks and you'll be doing the same thing , the only advantage to the speedys set up is a larger variety of shock springs to choose from
T4sforme 02-16-2009, 08:36 PM Thx. disruptor. So I should use some limiters inside the shocks right. Not outside. I know this seams like a dumb question. But figured I'd ask.
sbrady#0 02-17-2009, 08:20 PM yes on the inside but to many and you will not have much travel on your shocks
disruptor10 02-19-2009, 08:25 AM sbrady is correct just try to measure the size so they will be equal on both
I have run my T3 in the gas truck class before and did well. If you do too well expect complaints from the gas drivers.:(
team-darkside 03-01-2009, 11:46 PM I will say this. We have been running 10.5 as a 19t/mod truck class. Both myself and a fellow racer were turning times competitive with the gas trucks. In fact Wade drove with the gas trucks and was doing well, but the gas trucks are heavier in a shoving/hacking match. It is always a hoot to come out of the corners with the front end in the air while turning low 6's. Electric life is Great!:dude:
Matt D. 03-02-2009, 10:41 AM We run modified trucks at TEA's Hobbyshop (http://www.teashobbyshop.com) and all of the fast guys are running unmodified chassis and suspension. Would offset weight, shorter left arms and shorter shocks make a difference? Hard to say, but I'd be willing to say it's negligable. My T4 has B4 shock towers, truck front shocks in the rear and TC3 shocks in the front and I don't get around the track any better than the guys running stock suspensions. The battle for TQ is always within 2 laps between the top 5 drivers, usually 10+ trucks showing up every night.
I have a RC10T3 I built for Dirt Oval. I've been wanting to move the battery to the left.
Any ideas?

If I were to do it I'd cut down the side of the "tub" and fasten in Associated battery trays to the left of the stock battery tray.
