Make sure you don't twist or cover the tip of the antenna, let it float atop the plastic tube if you use one.

The range on the micro should be as good or better than your original receiver. It sounds like they may have some sort of issue. Send them in for repair and we will get them fixed up. They usually get turned around in less than a week.
