Recived this today, from a trade with a collector from Austria: Vintage Dinky VW 1600 TL, lovely model with lots of opening parts, her shown with the smaller Lesney Matchbox.
The 1600 TL has a special place in my heart, my long gone grandfather had this car (though it was a white stationcar version) for many years, so I have a lot of childhood memories connected to this vehicle.

This little stationwagon was called a squareback in the US - learned to drive a car in one!!! Small world!

Yup! Paint it white and add a roof-rack with a couple of ladders, 10 buckets of paint along with some brushes in the rear and a singing bald man at the steeringwheel

Paint it black and add seatbelts (an option), a 1969 rear door, and a very small woman at the steering wheel - that was my Mom teaching me to drive!

My Dad drove a 68 Squareback that same color but with a black interior. Is this an old or recent release? I don't know anything about Marklin.

Märklin is the famous German model train company, but they made a series of older diecast cars and trucks in the 1950-60s and then this series of RAK (http://www.erichs-modellbahn.de/maerklin_h0/Autos/autos-rak.htm) cars from 1968-75. They had the two types of wheels (superfast later to compete with you-know-who) and came in several colors. Several books have been published that describe them in detail.

Very fine:thumbsup:
This Dinky VW1600TL is one of the few UK Dinky castings that come close to the French levels of quality, and it would be nice to see one side by side with the Marklin to compare family resemblance.I have both Politoys versions and they dont look as good as the Karls´ cars
