View Full Version : Oil Filled Shocks Should Be Illegal!
Jesse Bean 02-06-2009, 11:33 PM I don't feel like heating batteries, saucing or trueing tires, building front ends, rebuilding diffs, or putting oil in my shocks. So let's outlaw them b/c i'm lazy and can't find anything else to fuss about.
Bill Johnson 02-06-2009, 11:45 PM Your taking my Ideas, but I'd like to add controversy to, since we haven't really had any since last year, till Someone got Bored and Started one on another thread.......
Body Clips, or Screws.....
4,5,or 6 Body Posts.....

Porksalot4L 02-07-2009, 10:14 AM i know a guy that only uses dish soap in the shocks to save money. so is he legal or not
SHADOW 02-07-2009, 10:49 AM I heard he said it was incase he crashed hard and blew a shock he won't oil down the track just clean it.
i know a guy that only uses dish soap in the shocks to save money. so is he legal or not
katf1sh 02-07-2009, 12:40 PM i'm sorry do you manufacturer shocks?
than i would stick to what you do know!
racing has been close way before we needed to heat batteries!
swtour 02-07-2009, 01:12 PM racing has been close way before we needed to heat batteries!
Yeah, back then we had to have EXPENSIVE Charging and Cycling able chargers, pay EXTRA for TOP OF THE Line "Matched" packs...DEAD SHORT, cycle...baby sit, etc.
Oh we also had to spend HOURS building, dynoing...and looking for that PERFECT motor too - which I'm sure now that some places open their rules up...that will start happening ALL OVER again!
so now...we have to
Go To WALGREENS - dump $17.00 bucks....
$15.00 of which will go to a HEATING PAD
$ 2.00 for ear plugs to block out the whining
Plug in the pad, wrap up your pack... TURN ON the pad
CHARGE
if you don't wanna DO IT - just buy the EAR PLUGS...
MOST racers (like myself) who are LAZY, won't both heating..cause we won't see the difference.
.but since this was a shock thread... WHAT is the most COMMON weight oil for Side Shocks on CARPET and ASPHALT~
DOUGHBOY 02-07-2009, 01:36 PM I Have Been Running 25-30 On Asphalt And 35-40 On Carpet
Tommy Boy 02-07-2009, 01:38 PM baby oil. lol
ST_ODIE 02-07-2009, 02:38 PM Well Dam I'm going to the Hobby store and get me some oil for my shocks
I better start keeping up with the rest
then to wally world get me a heating pad MY Back Hurts
jmccormick 02-07-2009, 02:45 PM cool how about no shocks at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
fuel tubing for the center and a damper tube for the side
barnz2 02-07-2009, 03:03 PM OK Jim,
But no lube for your tube that could be in violation of the rules.
jmccormick 02-07-2009, 03:13 PM Heck how about no nadda just a solid plate...NO POD

racing has been close way before we needed to heat batteries!
Yeah, it was also close before Speedmeters, 600 Rotors to sift through, 358 cars came out, 23 different traction compounds, 5 different Lipo Battery companies, 893 classes to run, 200 speedo's with different software, 90 Radio manufactures, 40 different side shocks, 20different center shocks.....How much does all this add up to??? 1000% over the cost of a heating pad...
If you think Compounding your tires was an evolution back when the first people started to get the most out of their tires, well guess what, another evolution has taken place to get the most out of their batteries....
OvalTrucker 02-07-2009, 06:58 PM I believe there is an increased disadvantage put upon myself and others like me because some of the guys I race with have transmitters that weigh significantly less than my 3PK.
I'm not sure how much longer I can put up with it!
Do you suppose Obama will buy me a DX3R?
OvalTrucker 02-07-2009, 07:00 PM Oh Crap! I didn't mean to inject politics into this!! HA HA HA!!

I'd say start working out to keep it up in the air, but, I think people would have a problem with that....
swtour 02-07-2009, 07:28 PM LOL O'bama is from Chicago, is he IRISH?
and you are right about those DX3's, they feel like feathers!
they use what....a 4 cell? (I wonder if we can switch them to SINGLE CELL Lipo!)
cwinters 02-07-2009, 07:36 PM I'd say start working out to keep it up in the air, but, I think people would have a problem with that....
If we allow people to start working out to get that kind of advantage, then we will have to start testing for performance enhancing drugs. So I say no working out. If you can hold your radio in position for more than 6 minutes without taking a rest then you should be disqualified.

69mkitmine 02-08-2009, 01:46 AM If the shock manufacturers/engineers said that running oil would significantly shorten the life of my shocks then my good common sense would tell me to listen up, lube them as directed, and make them last as long as possible. Then I would encourage the race director to address the issue, and everyone would be on the same page.
Everyone has their own agenda. It doesn't make sense to me to add more cost to something that was supposed to save us money and allows more time to enjoy the fellowship of the hobby. I'm not taking about the cost of a heating pad either. I'm talking about replacing packs lost to mistakes in the heating process, and how heating may shorten the life of the battery. I imagine that If heating a lipo pack or "running oil in your shocks" is sooooo very important to some, then while you may be getting more out of your battery <more voltage less life>, you are getting less out of the hobby. This is a hobby folks. A hobby.
Wise up, and use a 5000 pack and don't heat it. This will give you the average voltage number you are looking for and the life cycle will not be shortened by abuse. I guess that some just miss buying a pack or two each month.
I coudn't fathom the idea of trying to explain to a potential new racer that he needed to heat his packs to gain an advantage, and that because he did this, the new pack that he just bought wouldn't last as long. Then explain to him that this advantage was an oxymoron, because everyone else is doing it.

Would BenGay and Geritol be considered "performance enhancing"? I race with some guys that are considerably older than me and they are faster most of the time. Hmmm.
These same guys also race almost every week of the year. I only get to race once or twice a month. That seems unfair to me. It is about ME isn't it?
I think ROAR needs to impose a rule about the frequency of race attendance on a 'per individual basis' to help level the playing field for some of the racers that don't get to race as often.

Check out the board for whiners! (usually up or down one from this one)
Before somebody strings ya up in a tree, Get a Rope!:p
I can't stand the smell of metal polish either. Say no to shiny kingpins! Don't even get me started on Kingpin Lube!
OvalTrucker 02-08-2009, 12:26 PM At this rate we should have all the whining worked out of our system's and the planet's will again be properly aligned.
How many more things are there to whine about anyway?
1. Shocks - check
2. Batteries - check
3. ESC's - check
4. Lightweight TX's - check
5. Shiny Kingpin's - check
6. Kingpin Lube - check
How about "Gangsta Racer's that wear their ballcaps crooked and bluejeans 5 sizes too big"?
Jesse Bean 02-08-2009, 12:29 PM and people who race with heads 3 feet out hung over the track. they should be DQ'd:thumbsup: Check!
cwinters 02-08-2009, 01:52 PM I think there is some competitive advantage if you use tires. Everyone should race on rims, right Joe?
Chuck
SHADOW 02-08-2009, 01:55 PM How about the bodies?? I see alot of cars without numbers on them, don't racecars have numbers? Oh and flames belong in the grill not on racecars.
