It will be a tight bull-ring and high banked. i was wondering what i would have to do to keep it smooth. Jerzferno 02-06-2009, 01:12 PM Couple of things you can do. Keep it packed down good and tight with a roller. Make sure the roller is nice and heavy. Keep traffic (foot traffic) limited on the surface. Guys walking on it with agressive work boot treads can ruin all your hard work. Not sure what exactly you will be using, but good watering is important. Not too much to make it like pudding. If you use a roller pulled by a lawn tractor, the tires can put an unwanted tread parttern on your track too. Where I race, they have a dedicated tractor for that and have the tires wrapped with duct tape. Something good to do if you can. Wont be too good if you need that tractor to mow the lawn. LOL If the track starts to get wavey, you can drag a piece of 6x6 rail road tie behind the tractor. If you can get your hands on a piece of old chain link fence, attach it under the 6x6 and let it drag behind maybe 3 feet long the width of the tie. That will evenly distribute any clay that gets cut out by the weight of the 6x6. Then you roll it. NICE! umax421 02-06-2009, 05:07 PM red clay is a really tackey dirt that takes water well i race gokarts on it around where i live. thank you for the help i will be sure to remember that. team-darkside 02-08-2009, 12:51 AM also I have heared of a trick. I am unsure if it works, but try a salt solution. I have heared that at the pikes peak race they use a salt solution sprayed on the track to keep down dust an allow a groove to form. Also what we did on a red clay off road track is take an old piece of plywood and lay it out across the track and jump up and down on it. And as was said before watering is crucial. Not to much and not too little.:dude: umax421 02-09-2009, 09:31 AM Ok I'll try that too. DirtOvalDude 02-09-2009, 10:04 AM high banks in the outdoors can be tricky, a hard rainstorm can ruin the track. Consider getting some blue tarps to keep the sun and rain off the surface. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
