There is just something about the early regular wheels pieces that can really stir ya up, its like each one is a piece of art and each one has a history and represents a much simpler time. The small variations then were based on production issues more than trying to create a frenzy among collectors, and most of all they were toys that were meant to be played with THEN, not encased in air tight containers, never to be played with or touched by a kids hands.

Very well put, QuicksilverDC. The new stuff, though they are attractive and can be exciting, lack some of the passion and spirit that created these great pieces shown here. I would trade all the "chase" pieces and deliberate variations I have for these vintage cars. This is why I now collect Matchbox. As long as Mattel doesn't apply the Hot Wheels template to MB, it will continue to be the purists alternative to the greed-driven fiasco that is Hot Wheels. If I had the resources, I would collect these old cars. I will, however, gladly live vicariously through other collectors. Just keep the pics coming!

I don't know if I have ANY vintage matchbox with those older wheels.
Well, at least none in any kind of displayable condition. I tend to like
my models to roll very well

I like the Brooke Bond Tea model!
