SMS88 02-01-2009, 06:39 PM Those boxes look crisp  Amazing how the paint shades varied between batches.....this was as close as Lesney ever got to a pink Caddilac...does one of these cars have the silver plastic wheels? I have never seen a Stannards book.. I have never seen a Stannards book.. Yes there 3 gray plastics, a metal wheel and a (39a11) silver plastic 9x20 wheeled variations there. Mike Stannard is a collector who produced in 1985 a book call Matchbox 1-75 Series 1953-1969 Collectors Catalogue who took variation collecting to the final level in the degree of both detail and actual diagrams and drawings, color pictures etc. Not a cheap book, but well worth every penny if you collect in this manner. Very hard to find in 2006 I paid 170.00 (was worth it to me) for it but have seen it much cheaper. The ISBN number is 0 9510367 O X it was reprinted in April 2002 by Lynmar printing corp. When you thought you were doing good at collecting variations, you open this book up and your jaw not only hits the table, it keeps right on going right to the floor! It is a MUST have for any SERIOUS variation collector. It gives in depth history, Boxes, colors & trim, castings, wheels, axles, time lines etc! Have you seen this amazing site? I use this as my reference, and apparently it incorporates a corrected listing of the original Stannard variations. I really look forward to the Superfast issue of regular wheels castings being incorporated, although this is a year or more away....... Here is my Jones code 2 Zodiac seen with 2 other playworn rareties which came to me from the same fleamarket toybox and most likely all belonged to the same child http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e113/SMS369/sms88/2008-Aug123.jpg QuicksilverDC 02-02-2009, 06:10 PM WOW great find!!! I been looking for the tan interior off and on over the years, The Caddys are super as well as the vauxhall peeking out. I will post a few pics later tonite maybe. Keep the pics coming it always great to see what you may never have seen or knew exsisted before...Thanks for sharing...:thumbsup: The Moutain 02-02-2009, 06:15 PM very nice lineup and i was going to say the same thing about the boxes. be careful of the tan interior variation as the turquoise color can be sun faded to tan. this was tried just to see if could be done. actually there were some that sun faded models to catch some collectors off guard. Yep that is the Stannard guide, never seen it online before, you can bet I spend a few days there also. Also very glad to see it has been updated. THANKS AGAIN!!!:thumbsup: SMS88 08-24-2009, 08:25 PM http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/9137/2009aug030.jpg (http://img7.imageshack.us/i/2009aug030.jpg/) Lastweek I got this very fine loose bodyshell from a local collector.I have 2 potential chassis donors, the choice was a rare green chassis from a chipped car or a standard aqua base from a car which had lost its original windscreen. I decided to replace the chipped body because the new shell is the correct colour and casting variation for a green baseplate http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/5114/2009aug031.jpg (http://img8.imageshack.us/i/2009aug031.jpg/) I dont yet have a box for one of these but i do now feel that I have nailed the important variations to complete the 39a section of my collection -light,medium & dark peach, gray, silver & metal wheels, green, tan & aqua baseplates http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/2284/2009aug036.jpg (http://img8.imageshack.us/i/2009aug036.jpg/) Lummox 08-25-2009, 05:17 PM Pretty good shape for just a lone shell! vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
