I have been reading alot about set-up information on our cars lately and listening to folks when they talk about set up. I have many questions, but here is my current one:

I have heard guys say that their car is "into the track too much". I have heard guys say they can't "feel" their car because it's not into the track enough or "on top of the track".

Could someone explain these characteristics to me and what we should be looking for in this area for faster lap times. Thanks guys.

Into the track as in overly hooked up and bound. Basically the car is easy to drive but slow because the tires are to soft or springs are to soft would be the major causes of this condition. Essentially you bogging the motor. You will always have a hot motor after running a car thats locked down.

On top of the track is when the car doesnt respond well to steering input because its not hooked up enough. Usually you will have very little sidebite and forward drive. Basically softer tires and springs are a good place to start fixing this problem.

You want your car to be as free as is possible but still drivable. Ideally you want the stiffest springs and hardest tires you can use and still be in control of the car. You will know when you have it right because your cars handling will be very responsive to change. IE it will go from perfect to loose after adding half a turn to the rr spring.

Basically these conditions are usually due to the wrong tires on the car. Either to soft or to hard.

Hope that helps

These terms refer to how a real car feels.
For example a car that is "into the track too much" has a heavy, boggy feeling, even a sloppy feeling.
A car that is "on top" of the track is non responsive and generally "feels" to light.
When a car is setup just right it is a "heavenly" feeling that few get to experience......................
