I have a buddy who is selling me some of his stuff and i was looking at his cars today and i am very honest with him about what he has that i think is rare and i came across something odd. he has a 31 doozie orange, green interior and fenders, blue windshield, and REDLINES?!!??!!?? that car is not listed in any book or website that i can find and as far as i can tell there is no way the rivets have been popped on it. i will get you guys pictures sometime soon, LMK if you have any idea whats up with this car he didnt know he even had it and i spotted it in a bin with a ton of other cars

The 31 doozie was released in 1977 This is the year Mattel started phasing out Red lines, Most models where released with RSW and BW, some of the the RSW are more rare than other models, The car you describe fits in this category. But is a Hong Kong Casting. and May be Very RARE. As I Understand from the new TOMARTS PRICE GUIDE TO HOT WHEELS.

My Bad, it is a U.S casting BUT! the color combo you describe list for $175.00 MINT! with Black Walls! Thats just Tomarts price Guide estimate, Not the gospel. I guess it would come down to condition, And how bad a collector wants it. The H.K. Doozie is Green/Green/ light green Tampo BW....the thing that stumps me is that color combo you described was produced in 1981..?

you see thats what i was thinking, the paint color and interior combo is AFTER redlines were produced, the car has quite a bit of play wear but not terrible. The redlines arent in the greatest shape either which leads me to think they are original, so in other words it looks like the paint wear matches the wheel wear. i am trying to email my buddy right now to get those pictures, if i remember correctly it says hong kong on the base

It Is A Nice Car. And As I Said Before. I Am STUMPED. It Appears To Be An Original Redline 31 Doozie, The Spun (rivets) Look Untampered with. In 1981 Colors, With Redline Wheels So All I Can Say, Is That It Is A Rare Piece! Just Told You What It Says In A Guide. Hope This Helps Until A Real Expert Comments.

It looks to me that this car has seen some time in sunlight. The bottom of the fenders are darker than the rest of the fender & is closer to the correct brown color. The redlines on the wheels also look faded. The car also has the redline "open" base that was only used on the car when it was first produced & was gone by 1981. I think this is just redline fade in which the fenders turned from brown to green.

the more i look at the pictures i am kind of thinking the same thing myself, with the fade, gonna go by his house this week and take my camera, its a bit better as far as close up pictures go, i am gonna take a REALLY close look at the bottom of the fenders above the wheels inside the wheel wells and see if they are in fact brown. If you look at the picture of the base the sides do in fact look extrememly dark, and actually they look brown to me so like i said this may be a couple of days in the making but i am gonna try and clear this up for you guys, you really have been a lot of help and i will definitely keep you updated. and i wanted to share with you guys an item this same guy had sold on ebay, he was offered $500 for the lot of like 6 or 7 slot cars he had.:freak::drunk:

called my buddy this morning talked to him about this car, i told him to look at the bottom and he says it does look brown, but he wasnt convinced it was fade. so i told him what you guys said and he is going to entrust me with the car so i am gonna pick it up probably tomorrow and bring it home to sleuth around with it a bit. the only reason he doesn think it is fade is because #1 its extremely even all over the car and #2 the interior definitely looks green to him. we'll find out in the next couple of days. doesnt the top of this car come off as well?

BINGO!, I believe that the above answer is 100% Correct.

The car is not rare but what you see is directly related to the fact that it wasn't taken care of, the rust on the axles says plenty. At one time they were silver now they're rust brown, what was once brown is now green.
I have seen this before on that particular casting.

the more i look at the pictures the more i agree if you look in the cracks of the rear of the car the green turns to brown, even the base of the cars plastic looks brown. i was supposed to pick this car up from my buddy but....well actually i havent been able to get ahold of him which is odd because i owe him money ;) since people are still looking at this thread, isnt this car in the "extras" series as a blackwall? i am asking because if it is i am gonna take that top off and have a closer look at the interior when i get my hands on it!!!
