View Full Version : Dukes of Hazard... now this really pisses me off!

Some people have been calling John Scheider a sell-out for a while... I finally agree. He made his fame on jumping the General Lee and it always kept going. Sure we all know it really wasn't possible... but why does he have to be cutting up perfectly good General Lees to make a buck? The General Lee is an ICON and shouldn't be treated this way...:mad:
(No, I am not being sarcastic, this really pisses me off!)
Scott Moen 01-20-2009, 06:00 PM I saw this too, but it's not for me. Personally, who cares if he cuts up a few 1:18 General Lees. If I can ask, why does this bother you ? They are just diecast replicas.
I would think that you would be more upset with the studio executives who produced the Dukes of Hazzard show. They destroyed countless REAL Dodge Chargers over the seven or so seasons of the show. Those cars can never be replaced. They were much more valuable than 10 diecast cars.
As for John, he's no more of a sell-out than anyone else involved with the show or any other show for that matter. I'm sure he wasn't paid a ton of money for his work with the show. Actors now a days make 200K - 300K an episode. More power to him if he wants to be creative and make a little $$$.
These are just my opinions and not meant to attack you in any way. Just food for thought.

dipstick 01-20-2009, 07:56 PM Hey Scott - I agree, but I think the disappointment for me was that he was an icon of sorts and it is sad to see someone sink to this level....
dr.olds 01-20-2009, 07:59 PM He should have had his wife on there modeling the cars, shes pretty hot
Scott Moen 01-20-2009, 08:41 PM I know what you are saying. But who knows what is going on in his personal life. He hasn't done that much acting since he left SMALLVILLE. Maybe he doesn't have to work and has enough $$$$$$ to live on. Maybe these diecasts are a bit of a fun diversion for him. Now if he was on QVC hocking these by the case full, then I'd say things were not looking good. But who knows.

slythorne 01-20-2009, 10:01 PM I don't know why it pissed me off so much... I used to wreck cars like that when I was a kid... I guess anyone else doing it I would think it was cool... but Bo Duke destroying the General Lee?? He would never do that back in Hazzard County... He always landed the car without a hiccup and kept on running.
I guess now I feel sad for him. He has nothing better to do with his career. I also feel sad for those that "gotta have one" collectors... From the pic, they aren't even that well done. It is like someone cut the body, put it in a vice, pounded on it with a rubber mallet, then randomly glued dirt on it and called it done... Doesn't look very professional at all... At least he didn't use the Danbury Mint ones - If I had the money I would buy one of them instead of his "masterpieces"... :P

check around the listings. there should be a video of how they were made. it took about 5 minutes for him to make all of them. he did them by placing them on a step at an angle and stomping on them in his back yard.

It was a TV show! He probably never even drove the car, and his name is not really Bo Duke. Most of the cars were probably totalled, and there is no Hazzard County.
Sorry, just wanted to get that out there, don't really understand what the problem is with these. I personally think they are pretty cool.
Wyatt 04-15-2009, 12:05 PM If people are willing to pay for them, he should make as many as he wants. It's the same as people paying to get an autograph from a celeb they admire.
alex1485 04-15-2009, 08:38 PM hey, as long as its not the real thing and not a handbuilt diecast (GMP for instance) i dont mind.
No_Ice_Kustoms 04-23-2009, 02:00 PM He** thats pretty ingenious, most of them Hollywood liberals probably cant search ebay without the help of there personal assistant let alone use there mind to create a product to sell on there. IT shows us that not all actors are helpless and need a tv camera to make money to survive!!! WTG JOHN
The show made the car the car didnt make the show into the icon it is. As a friend of mine who is is a muscle car broker would say, " ITS JUST A DODGE BOYS" but i say they could have saved millions on hood letters by shortening the name and leaving the 2nd D and E out of the name. Its just a DOG!!!!!!!
RVREVO 05-31-2009, 02:53 PM I don't know why it pissed me off so much... I used to wreck cars like that when I was a kid... I guess anyone else doing it I would think it was cool... but Bo Duke destroying the General Lee?? He would never do that back in Hazzard County...
Actually there was an episode where they were hypnotized and were finding all sorts of ways to destroy the car...
Must've forgotten that episode, éh???
Also they didn't always land smoothly... and on occasion got run off the road... landed on its roof... yet Crazy Cooter always fixed it overnight.
dragonhead00 05-31-2009, 08:59 PM JS is an actor who did a job. He's not Bo Duke nor is he the keeper of DoH tradition. Why shouldn't he capitalize on his fame? Besides, the General Lee was a plain-jane 318 Charger that they changed like dirty diapers.
RVREVO 06-01-2009, 10:57 PM no only that, but when they ran out of the '69 they continued to jump with the '71... although some jumps for movie magic reverse image or archive jumps from earlier seasons. The stunts became less as the show rolled to an end.
And what about those few episodes with those other two cousins to replace Bo and Luke... what was up with that??? the ratings surely would've plummeted with that little main actor replacement.

Scott Moen 09-07-2009, 12:32 PM Hi All,
Well I had a chance to meet John "Bo Duke" Schneider at this years Lightning Fest last month. I have to say that John was so down to earth, it was unreal. He really is just like Bo Duke and Jonathan Ket combined. He was willing to talk and joke with his fans. The first night of LF, he hosted a showing of his movie "Collier & Co.". I almost laughed when I saw what was in the movie. In a number of the scenes, which were shot in John's garage, were RC2/Ertl Boxes of 1:18 General Lees. You couldn't read the writing on the boxes, with the exception of the RC2/Ertl logo. How funny is that ? :p
Take care and have a great Labor Day all.
Scott

I agree but I was not born when the show premiered.
robertwadehall 09-07-2009, 07:25 PM Uh, he was a B-list actor in a crappy TV show 30 yrs ago...don't know why people get so worked up about it. Yeah, I liked DOH when I was 10 years old, but I outgrew it...
Scott Moen 09-08-2009, 01:11 PM I'm happy to say I never grew out of the DOH, at least the first four seasons. They still give a good laugh when I watch them.
As for John being a B-List actor, yes I would agree with that, but I do think that he has done some great work on SMALLVILLE and on some of the specials he has done. Maybe being a B-List actor is why he is so down to earth.
Take care all and have a great week.
Scott
