View Full Version : Hi new guy here with a question on RC body conversion.
Jwerner2 01-19-2009, 02:14 PM Hi, I wanna know if anyone here has converted any RC cars into slot cars?
Right now Im up for suggestions on any scale.
Thanks!
PS: I was not aware of needing a post count of two or greater so my link to the car I wish to use would need to wait. Sorry.
slotnewbie69 01-19-2009, 02:18 PM it is relatively simple,as the wiring is much less complicated.braid to wires to poles on motor!i just did one from a toy car.take out any unneeded techy stuff,to simplify your build.all you would need to do is figure out how you want to setup your guide flag.if you were going to do a big truck, you could do a drop flag like on wheelie cars...
Jwerner2 01-19-2009, 02:23 PM Cool thanks!
Jwerner2 01-19-2009, 02:24 PM Now its time for the linkhttp://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/images/smilies/shifty.gif...http://cgi.ebay.com/TAKARA-TOMY-DRIFT-R-02-D1-RE-RX-7-FD3S-2006-R-C-Car_W0QQitemZ260337751382QQihZ016QQcategoryZ34060Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I would really love to utilize the AWD in this car!
Got any pics of yours? Just want a rough idea for the guide.
slotnewbie69 01-19-2009, 03:28 PM if you go on the HT customs thread in modelling?customizing you should find pics if this doesn't work...as you can see,i cut an opening in the battery box to fit the new motor, and used the same crown gear on the new axle by heating the end of the axle, and pressing the crown gear on as straight as possible.then i superglued in the motor, and hooked up the wires to the motor!the guideflag was installed already,so go on the 1/32 forum for more advicehttp://i554.photobucket.com/albums/jj434/slotnewbie69/DSCN1647.jpg
http://i554.photobucket.com/albums/jj434/slotnewbie69/DSCN1646.jpgas far as the awd goes, you could wire in separate motors,or drive a long shaft through an inline motor to drive a crown gear front and back.they do however sell awd rally cars for slot tracks
Jwerner2 01-19-2009, 03:34 PM Thanks. I am more interested in fixing he front axle and the guide but I do thank you lots.
Also, the car has two motors for AWD, as I said I would like to utilize its AWD.
EDIT: I see, is the guide hooked up to the axle so the wheels turn with the guide?
slotnewbie69 01-19-2009, 03:43 PM yes,i will attach the steering to the guideflag,as the stock steering mechanism is still in place to hold the guideflag in place.i think they look cool drifting in the corners with the wheels turning into the slide!posting pics of the chassis would be helpful, too!i think if you wired the braids on the guideflag to both motors, this would in turn power both motors.or run braids first motor shunts to second motor...
Jwerner2 01-19-2009, 03:49 PM Ok I'll post some pics of the chassis if the source allows me ( might be protected ) I am also sure I can just take the wires from the power source and run those to the braids to get power from the track rather than run two sets of wires. One thing I will need to work on is making sure the front wheel make contact with the track. My 1/43 scale SCX cars dont which is cool for special values but knocks off a whole lot of realism points IMO. The reasons for the wheels not touching I think has to do with handling and down force but AWD should take care of that!
EDIT: Here is a link to the pics. It is in Japanese but the pics should work enough.http://www.auctiva.com/hostedimages/showimage.aspx?gid=748706&image=179920506&images=179922380,179922386,179922418,179922448,179 920495,179920506,179921768,179921986&formats=0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0&format=0
slotnewbie69 01-19-2009, 04:07 PM with the way the shaft assembly is,it looks straight forward enough.as far as your front wheels not touching the track,i would say its the braids holding the car up off the track.make sure they are as flat as possible under the chassis...i,d like to see those 1/43 cars,as i have ho and i/43 carrera
Jwerner2 01-19-2009, 04:13 PM Its nothing special yet. Its the SCX compact kit and it came with some pretty cheap looking cars IMO. Mostly just dyed plastic. Its the GT Touring kit with the AMG and Audi. The braids do keep the car up but I cut the braids down for my kids on one of the cars so it goes slower ( not to jump track ) and its something with the guide also.
SCX has the same cars they sell stand alone ( outside the kit ) and they are 100x's better! ( unless its the digital )
slotnewbie69 01-19-2009, 04:46 PM nope no digital, here,i am an analog man.i find my carrera mustang way to light.its fast, but it deslots all the time.think i am going to put some peel and stick lead in it to keep it in the slot!however my f1 cars work great!i found what my car is that you saw,its a jada 5.5'' series rc car...
Jwerner2 01-19-2009, 05:05 PM Hey, if you could do you think you can at some point snap some shots of the guide for me as a reference?
Im gunna be off to Atlantic City for the week and as soon as I get back Im buying one of these. If it dont wokr hey at least I got a cool RC car then..lol!
slotnewbie69 01-19-2009, 05:37 PM here ya go:you can see how the guide is installed and lead wires attached.in the side view you can see the screw i added to the steering so the guide moves with slot, giving a realistic look while drifting

Jwerner2 01-19-2009, 06:35 PM What body is it? I had a few Jada toys I started collecting way back. Im into custom cars and all ( Tuner and VIP )so I started buying them for the hell of it. Now they are pretty much smashed up from the kids playing with them.
slotnewbie69 01-19-2009, 07:01 PM its a 69 camaro..from the 5.5"rc series
Jwerner2 01-19-2009, 07:56 PM I had the Supra with lights but it was way to big for a slot car:lol:
I have a ton of other die casts in RX-7's, 180z's and Silvia's but the kids busted 'em up bad.
slotnewbie69 01-19-2009, 08:27 PM yeah i don't let my kid touch the cars yet...
