Since the subject came up in the M2 Muscle release 2 post I thought I post several I thought were worthy of being considered

I agree with all those choices , they could do the Cyclone Spoiler II with the Talladega style front end also .
We also need 66 / 67 Fairlanes done correctly , unlike many of JLs & even GMP's 1/18 Fairlanes are wrong ...
Would like 66 - 79 Ranchero XL / GT models too .. 66 / 67 Cyclone .
The Ford camp is poorly represented in diecast - except Mustangs ..

:thumbsup:I agree with all of the above. Especially the Cyclones (and Montegos) and Torinos of that era. The seam just right for M2. Neat cars, under-represented in small scale.

I like all of the above choices esp the Torino and the Montego. Let's add a few more to the Muscle Car list:

1969 Mecury Marauder

1970 Chevelle/Malibu Wagon

I always did like wagons, although I'm not really sure why. I think its their ability to provide "utility" without being an SUV. That is one of the coolest I've ever seen....color and all :)

Hey fellas,

some very cool cars, I really like that black Fury GT. Wow, I don't think I have every seen one in person. The Chevelle wagon is also cool, but Chevrolet only made a SS Chevelle wagon in 1973. And I personally like the earlier Cougars a little more, 1967 or 1968. You guys really like Torinos? Really?

JL's are Talladegas. Few can really releate to them. I think 68-69 Torino GTs and Torino Cobras would be great and a long time coming. Fastbacks, Coupes and convertibles would be nice. I'm all for Cougars too!

Well here in southern Lower Michigan and northeastern Indiana the JL 70-71 Cyclones didnt stay on the shelves very long and neither did the 69 Torino Talladegas. I have never seen anyone do the 68-69 Torino fastback or formal roof or the 68-69 Cyclones in 1/64th. GMP has done a spectacular 1/24 of the Cale Yarborough/Dan Gurney 1969 Cyclone Spoiler II but that's it. JL did do a 68-69 Torino convertable in 1/64th but not any others.
Oh well, I dont hold out much hope, but I thought I'd put in my 2 cents.

My Torino comment was more for a reaction. :) I can't say anything right now.

But on a serious note, for all you Ford guys, after the Mustang what is the next most popular Ford muscle car? I know there are a lot of cool muscle cars from Ford, but they tend to be on the more rare side. I am not real interested in doing a car that there is only 500 made and they only came in one color. I go to car shows and drag races and it's pretty much Mustangs. For Chevy, they have Camaros, Chevelles, Novas even Impalas. All of these seem to be plentiful and commonly known to people.

I'm with EdselDave on this one.. Really need a correct 66 ,67 Fairlaine GT and 500. And the eqivalent Cyclones of those years as well.
Or some very early blue oval mojo like the 60',61' Starliners and 62' - 64' Galaxies

Sean,

For Chevy, you forgot to mention the grandaddy of them all: the CORVETTE!!

You are also correct in that Chevy and Chrysler produced a number fairly popular muscle cars whereas Ford only produced one.. which happens to be one of the most popular cars ever, and perhaps arguably the prettiest car ever designed (I would even venture to say that the late 60s Mustangs are better looking than its contemporary foreign Exotics in today's eye). In other words, Ford only built one hugely popular muscle car, but it was a colossal home run. The Cougar was a distant second, but I would NOT be surprised that the Cougar may have done similar sales numbers as some of the Chryslers for that matter....

Since M2 is into 50s cars, would the 50s Thunderbird count as a muscle car?

Of course, the other monumental Ford badged muscle car was the Shelby enhanced English AC Cobra.... and those are already being nicely done by Shelby Collectibles and HW... and do NOT forget the GT40 which is begging to be done in the M2 mold!

A Torino would be freaking awesome!!! I love Torinos! Ford muscle cars besides the Stang... for me it's the Torino, and the Fairlane.

Other Ford cars from the era, I will have to echo Sheldon on, the Galaxie, a 289/260 Cobra, and the GT-40 would be sweet!

The intermediate Fords/Mercurys were made in large numbers(roughly 300,000 Fords alone each year from 66-69). I still see them in drag racing especially the 66-67 427 Fairlanes. The intermediate Fords had a very colorful racing racing every bit if not more impressive than the Mustangs. I think Mustangs tend to overshadow the other muscle Fords/Mercurys which is probably one of the reasons they are so underrepresented in the diecast circles.

Sean,

Since we are on the topic of Mustangs and other muscle cars, here are some questions:

1) Has anyone seen a good, detailed and fully featured casting of the last classic body style of the Mach 1 Mustang, circa 1973 (the body style before it was ruined with the boxy Pinto look)?

I have only seen a sloppy out of proportion rendition from JL, and a nicely proportioned yet highly NON detailed rendition from Kyosho...

It would be cool to see M2 do one all opened up.

2) Has anyone ever seen a really decent 1964 1/2 version?

I have only seen a sloppy JL version, again it was out of proportion with no detail... in fact, it was really a 67 casting badged as a 64 1/2. Again, it would be cool to see M2 do the very first official 1964 1/2 Mustang in glossy red, fully opened up!

3) Though off the wall and probably not anything M2 would do, has anyone ever done a casting of the famous Mustang proto?

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/1965-ford-mustang-prototypes.htm
http://www.muscularmustangs.com/database/cougarconcept.php

Since we are on the subject of muscle cars, wouldn't it be great if M2 could also do the original Thunderbird - All OPEN!

Here are some others I would like to see M2 offer with open features:

1) C1-C3 Corvettes.... along with the race versions of the 1963-1965 Corvette coupes.

2) 67-69 Cougar. Ertl did a great 1970 Cougar so maybe that one can wait.

3) 69 Torino Cobra or Talladega

4) 66-68 first body style Camaros. Imagine a race version done with the Sunoco livery!!!

5) 69 second body style Camaros.

NOTE: I am surprised M2 chose the Chevelle and Cutlass for the Muscle cars as opposed to one of these early Camaros which have NEVER been done properly by anyone other than HW (who only did a nice collectible version of the 70 Camaro).

Other subjects I would lust for M2 to tackle but probably just dreaming:

1) CanAm cars. NEVER seen anyone ever do anything decent other than kiddie cars in 1/64. And since M2 like to be original, this would be VERY ORIGINAL.
2) American Le Mans cars from the 60s - other than Shelbys. Imagine the GT40 MK11 or MKIV with all open panels!!!!
NOTE: The only series I think GL did very well was the Grand Am set, and they actually opened the engine cowling! - no one ever does racing series like these other than the occasional HW Collectibles back in the day.

Doh! You got me. I think the Daytona is more of a exception here. 1. It's more of a icon car, and very recognizable, 2. Dodge made them in various colors. It's not like a 1969 Trans Am where 697 where made and in one paint scheme. If we did the Trans Am we would be one and done for the stock version.

SD64,

This casting was beautifully done by Ertl American Muscle series - perhaps the best proportioned diecast series I have ever seen.

Ertl did a 1:64 scale 1970 Mustang Twister Special and Sidewinder Special???

The only 1:64 scale Ertl American Muscle Mustang I recall is the standard 1969 Mach 1. (Black, green, red, and yellow I believe.)

I certainly wouldn't mind seeing a well proportioned and detailed 1964.5 -1966 Mustang as well. JL's version isn't bad at all, but it doesn't have the level of detail that M2's do. Heck, while we are at it, why not do the '67 - '68. GL's version looks pretty good, especially with the newly proportioned wheels, but again, not to M2's level. This happens to be one of my favorite Mustangs ever:

1968 Mustang GT with a 428 CJ (note the black stripe on the hood). What a sleeper!

I would love to some old race cars, but they are just not repaint friendly. The two mid 1970's Grand Ams of Mickey Thompson are cool, but no one is going to buy a green, yellow or purple versions of these cars, they only want the correct colors. On top of that there is also additional licensing involved for the driver & sponsors.

Maybe in the future we can do something in the racing world. Here's a shameless plug, on my free time (which is not much!!!) I do the artwork for www.VintageDragClub.com I just finished the Greer, Black & Prudhomme yellow dragster t-shirt.

Thanks,

V6B Black C stripe, V8B over the deck stripe. with ONLY the small bee image being reflective. The odd color stripes were basically color coded..you could not get a Green stripe on a blue car for example. And of course Black and White were available on all colors. and then code V88 was a stripe delete option where you only got the round SUPER BEE decal on the 1/4's.

Thanks,
Sean

This one....for obvious reasons :) Seriously, a '72 Challenger Rallye in Petty Blue with a white vinyl top and white interior would be awesome. My dad had one.

I just want to see some more Firebirds and Trans Ams done up by other companies.
I'd like to collect a Firebird from every year that Pontiac did.
Then again, how about a '74 GTO?
