In watching the NEWS today..man does it look like a LOT of you people are probably in areas that the term "Global Warming" sounds really good about now.

They were showing an awful lot of places that are ZERO or BELOW ZERO...in the North East and even in a lot what (at least I consider) MID WEST Cities.

I'm sitting here in California after a summer of WILDFIRES....here it is Mid January and we're having 83 degree days for the better part of the last week.

This weather is CRAZY...and I can't function when we get down into the 50's, I can NOT imagine LIFE in places were the Mercury goes the WRONG Way!

Global warming, my uh... "backside"...

In central Missouri, we've had below zero temps, with double digit negative windchill readings... There was a tragic house trailer fire locally yesterday, and it was so cold the fire fighter's airtanks FROZE and they were unable to rescue two small children. We have broken some all-time records for low temps this winter...

So - to answer you initial questions, YES, I'll take a little "Global Warming" right now -- sounds GOOD!

PS: I just looked out my window and it is SNOWING! and it is really "warming up", as the temp has gone from zero overnight to a whopping 13 degrees right now... IN MISSOURI for cying out loud -- looks and feels like the frozen North out there.... sheeze...

What the human body can tollerate is pretty amazing.

I'm always amused when I work with people from LA and they complain about how cold 40 and 50 is.

We also have pretty hot/humid summers.
And its funny how those same LA people complain how really hot our summers are.
It of course really isn't the temprature they're not used to, its the humidity.

The air temp at my house (15 miles south of Sioux City, Iowa) yesterday morning was -20 with a wind chill approaching -40. It did not get above 0 all day. Today we are having a heat wave.(Must be global warming) Temp is +7.

100 miles NE of me the air temp was -27 yesterday morning.

Bismark North Dakota yesterday the air temp was -44

I think I need to head WEST to sunny California. Did you say +83?

Bill,

We've been in the MID +80's all week long. We're supposed to dip down into the 70's early next week and start heading to the 60's with a chance of rain by mid next week...but still very very mild.

I'm 3 hours NORTH of L.A. and 4 hours SOUTH of San Francisco, just 15 minutes from the ocean.

Other places they tell me are CHEAPER and MORE affordable to live...but I tell ya what...if it means I have to deal with BELOW ZERO temps ... I'll stay BROKE in CA!

chuck_thehammer
01-16-2009, 02:06 PM
you may be broke in CA, but it cost me $400.00 to heat my little house last month. using gas.. I live in NE Ohio. -14 this morning, todays high -1. I bet my gas bill will be $550.00 this month. the TV said this week is the coldest here in 15 years.

so I am broke in Ohio and cold.

Chuck

I can't even imagine~

When you see a weather guy (or gal) say...

-7 degrees with a windchill of 42 BELOW, or some odd thing like that....there are MILLIONS of people who have NO Concept of that what so ever. (Myself included)

How do you people stay warm, keep your house warm enough to keep from freezing to death...

While debates over "Heating Lipo Batteries" for a "FUN" Hobby looms, people have real life issues that are so much larger, and more important. . .yet it appears a lot of people are unaffected by the temps..and just go on with business everyday and just DO IT.

I know I do not live in the coldest areas of the USA. We put on heavy under clothes, heavy clothes, big boots and heavy winter coat and cap or hat, and try not to remain outside for 15 minutes or more. most of us also go out and start the car 10 to 15 minutes before we leave. cars hate to start when it is below Zero, batteries loose about 50% of it starting power. motor oil is like thick mud. most people up here use 5x20 or 0x20 motor oil to help out the starting.

You know it is colder than normal when you go outside and the snot in your nose starts to freeze.
We have 12 to 14 inches of insulation in our attics and we keep the temperture at 68. You wear a hoody and long underwear in the house and yell at the kids to close the door.

It sure is cool out here in NH as my out side temp says -2 now and at 7am it said -19. I had to warm my car up to take kids to school as we had buses here that they could not get started..I miss living in Sanata Barbara as was much better weather.

This year in Missouri has been a little cold with very few warm days. I know it sounds wierd but I am used to at least a dozen days in the 65+ range around mid winter. I can only think of a few days, where the gulf air pushed high enough to warm my toes. This year, waking up to single digits sucks.

It is so cold that when I work on my R/C cars in the garage, I have a kerosene heater going full blast. I would rather pay an extra $20 a month on kerosene than $200 more for my furance to heat the garage space.

Global Warming may not be as "real" as some are saying, but global climate change is happening with shifting weather patterns. A few degrees won't hurt us, it is the millions of tons of pollution that will.

I've wondered about the whole GLOBAL WARMING issue...and wondered if it's instead of GLOBAL WARMING...more so TEMPERATURE SHIFTING.

Places are having record WARM, while other places are having RECORD Cold

With our 80+ degree JAN. temps, we HAVEN'T broke a JAN. record YET (at least not here in Santa Maria) a few other places nearby have.

But it IS unusual to be this warm, this time of year...

With the warm weather, we've got MORE People walking and jogging....people are EVERYWHERE - it's hard to even think about the people FREEEZING their butts off right now.

I could go for some of that "global warming" right now, hehe! It's silly cold here right now. However, I'd rather have cold than too much snow. As long as I can drive to where I want to go, I'm ok with cold. Just give me clear roads, and I'm happy.

Yesterday in Indiana I was outside for a short time with no coat on to throw something in a dumpster. I was outside for a few minutes and it really didn't bother me too much. Saw that the temp was around 2 degrees Farenheit.

Reaction to temperature is relative. If you think it is cold then it will feel colder. Granted, when it is this cold it truly can be life-threatening. However, watch which NFL team in the AFC looks/acts colder on the side-lines this weekend and I bet that is the team that will lose.

Ok so is it cold air or warm air that causes the most weather disruption?

If you can answer this you have the answer to Global Warming............ And why they call it that.

Just saw on the news that another "expert" thinks we are coming into a colder trend worldwide. Obviously nobody can predict the future...but I do like the idea of less polution, global warming or not.

I know everybody thinks Arizona is hot, but here in Flagstaff we are at 7,000 ft so it's not unusual to get below zero temps in the winter and we had over 4 feet of snow over the holidays. Still doesn't compare to North Dakota temps though. Hey Joe...if you think the people are cold in their houses, imagine the deer, rabbits, squirrels, and other creatures outside 24/7. It boggles my mind how they deal with the extreme cold.

U know, I asked a question the other day about our local high school we have here in Someset, PA. It was a simple question, it was the following:

Dear Principal,

Why do you have all the lights including the soccer and Football staduim lights on everynight? Especially since the Governments are going broke and Soon Schools will Suffer?

The Answer Was:

I am not sure? they come on automatically in the evening!

Nice huh. maybe that is some of the bailout money hard at work.

I thought the bail outs went the wrong way. if every ameican received part of the 1.7 T it would have been about 5200.00 each person. A family of 4 basically would have received 20K. I bet the banks , insurance companies and Automakers would all have gotten money if that happened,

Give it to the poor taxpayers and it will find it way back to the rich, give it to the rich they will horde it up for a rainy day.

Now I feel better

Ok guys...TODAY I felt YOUR PAIN!

I left the CA Central Coast and headed EAST to the CA "Central Valley", and had to go through some of the COLDEST WEATHER I've felt in a LONG TIME. When we drove through TULARE at 7 a.m. it was 32 FREAKIN Degrees It felt like it was FREEZING COLD OUTSIDE! I spit out my 3 hour old gum, and rolled the window down...and MAN, I thought my EAR was going to fall off.

With a sigh of relief....I rolled the window back up, turned the heater on for almost 2 minutes, and was happy again.

15 minutes later I rolled into the small farming community of LINDSAY where todays WARMUP Carpet Race took place, and I was SHOCKED when I got out of the car and it was STILL only 32 degrees.

MAN, I really should have worn a LONG Sleeve shirt, or brought a jacket!

It took me almost 5 minutes to unload my car - and I could see my breath in the FREEZING COLD air.

GOD, I hope I NEVER have to live through THAT again! (at least w/o a JACKET)

Yes but nothing it hasn't been doing longer than human existence. But they are making a hell of alot of money pushing this green crap on us. We are closer to an ice age then a warming trend. The ice fields of antarctica have expanded almost 20% since the 70's, contrary to what the media is pushing on us.That sounds like it would be a interesting profession! Good Luck!

One would think that geologists in the real world study geology- only a gov't geologist (or fed contractor) would study climate and the GWBS, probably just to get his hands on some big grant mulah, big bonuses, awards, plaques, medals and all the other perks that automatically come with a gov't job-
