Some of you may remember seeing a few glimpses of this rig when I joined the forum a year or so ago. It has been on display at a hobby shop most of it's 16 year life, and is now looking for a good home with a true plastic fanatic.

The three piece set is a tow vehicle, double axle trailer and ProComp Dodge Dart. Since each post is limited in the number of images it can have this will be a multiple post listing. All items were built by me from February 1993 through March 1994.

This rig consists of a Galaxie 21' double axle trailer equipped with two complete Fujimi tool kits and extras, a Revell-Monogram based 1967 Dodge Dart GTS and a Dodge pickup that was kit-bashed from a number of different trucks available at the time.

This rig was shown from 1994 through 2001 and won every single class it was entered in (18 awards). It also won Best in Show 4 times. It was featured twice in Model Car builder, in Summer 1994 and in their contest annual in 1996. Cost to build exceeded $600 at the time of construction and according to the parts list I still have took more than 625 machined, photoetched or custom produced pieces in addition to the kit parts.

On to part two.

The truck started life as a recycled Dodge Little Red Truck Kit, I think it was a Revell kit but I can't say for sure. About the same time AMT had a nice newer Dodge snap together, to the bed was taken from that to replace the ugly original bed. The Dually rear axle and wheels of the newer truck were carried over.

Engine wise, the truck is well detailed. The Chevrolet 350 has a cross ram intake and two cast metal 4 barrels, everything is wired even to the correct firing order. The hoses have bare metal clamps and at one time even the dip stick could be removed.

Inside some of the tings are hard to pick out at first, but there are sunglasses on the seat, a nice CB radio and some music cassettes on the dash. The interior is flocked in the carpeted areas, as are the seats. The truck has some handling damage but nothing unlike it would have in parking lot scuffles, and it's very dusty and in need of a nice professional cleaning.

The trailer is a first run release of the Galaxie Trailers. These are the best model car trailers ever made and are still available. This one was built with a right hand door.

There are extensive tools, extra engine parts, a welder and other parts. Some are cast white metal. The tools have the handles painted channel lock blue, the socket sets and other metal tools were painted with metalizer paint that has held up well.

There are 3 crankshafts, two in the trailer and one in the truck. The trailer is weathered wherever a hand rould have touched it repeatedly, and where the car drives in and out. Just in the trailer alone there are more than 100 parts in addition to the trailer kit.

The car was saved last because of the amount of detail. The car was, incidentally, the first piece built.

The engine is a rare find. In the 1960's Chrysler produced a 4 cam Hemi engine to compete with Ford's Big Boss. The engine never made it into a production car but it was included in one release from AMT in the early 1990's.

That block and heads formed the basis for what would have been a 500+ cubic inch nitrous boosted engine. Horsepower? Who knows. I had to relocated the forward bulkhead and radiator to get the engine in, and the chassis was modified for the transmission. A 57' Chevy ProMod manifold was added and then the aftermarket parts poured in. AN fittings, braided line, Magnaflux plug wires, lots of smaller details like a dip stick were all added.

The back truck was opened and stuffed with an imaginary fuel management system, NOS bottles and hoses and wiring. A drag fuel cell is there too. Both the hood and truck are held in place by Zeus fasteners. The twin parachutes drag the car back down from whatever speeds it attains. A rear end stolen from the 57 ProMod rests under the tubbed and rebuilt chassis.

The rig has seen better days, the car is missing some tail light lenses, there is wear on the car and truck, and it has been broken a few times and repaired. It has been displayed in a case where dust got in and needs an extensive professional cleaning on all three pieces. It is no longer show worthy, trophy worthy, but I feel it is a collectible none the less.

I'm trying to thin out my collection, and this is the center piece. I'm asking for $150 shipped and insured. If you like I will also include as much of it's trophy package as I can still find. Some I have, some are not in great condition. I simply don't have a place to store this since the hobby shop it was in display at is closing, so if it does not sell it may be scrapped for usable parts. Own a piece of my collection, with history to it.

Pete,

That is freakin nice! Even with the aging and time that has gone by, that setup is amazing! I can only imagine the hours and time spent just to get that rig accurate! WOW! How cool! And with loads of trophies to boot!

Whoever ends up with it ought to be one that appreciates a custom model that has no price tag due to the sweat-equity involved!

Sorry to see you part with it, but good luck on the sell bro!

That is a cool set-up. I can see why it won so many trophies :thumbsup: Love the color package. Have you posted it on the car model boards??? I'm sure one of those guys will jump on that...RM

Pete,

That is a great looking set up. You can almost hear it rumble as it starts the Hemi. That Hemi is getting harder to find. Great detail with the detail master parts..

That would look right at home in this case..

The truck trailer and car reminded of days in the seventies. My brother sold me a truck and a trailer to tow my car to the "garage." In the "garage" we would get on one end or the other and have head on crashes. After the crash we would "trailer" the car back to the shop "bedroom" and weld "melt" or glue thhe pieces back on adding dents with heat and go back to the garage to dual again in head on fashion. This was over thirty-some years ago. To make them roll we would glue in some hollow plastic q-tips for axle holders. My mom, bless her heart, never once complained about the black floaties that came from the melting plastic. Nice Rig you have.

I have some sealed kits from the 1960's and 1970's, mostly AMT Indy cars and some vintage NASCAR. The problem with collecting is once in a while the model companies re-release and that screws with the values. I have maybe 30 built that are still relatively intact plus a junk yard that fills a GI footlocker.

If there are any Michael Waltrip DEI-NAPA or Mark Martin ASA fans I may have something that would interest you. Also a very rare gold plated Bill Elliott McDonalds #94 Taurus built up. The Waltrip car is really detailed and has been stored in it's own display case. I have an overly detailed even in my estimation Firebird Funny Car that won it's share of awards about 16 years ago.

Unfortunately some of more favorite builds have not survived. I had a nice Fujimi Ferrari Daytona Spyder that has the photo etched wire wheels that got crushed, even the engine is no longer salvageable.
