View Full Version : Morl 2009
Stateline R/C 04-07-2009, 08:16 PM I don't think you need to reinvent the wheel here for the spec class. Tires and motor are one thing but when some one has a M11 radio or something, they don't want to use that worthless traxxas radio. The stock servo should be good enough but that radio has to go ! Most every other track that ran spec classes all winter long allowed radio changes. Or enjoy heats of 6 due to a lack of more channels because not everyone has the odd ball 27mhz am crystals in there pit box.
i agree in full, change the radio. you cant have everyone on 27 band, thats not a performance change. all that other stuff it may as well be a mod class the only thing you would have to change is the motor. These rules are really dissapointing i have alot of people that will be racing these here this summer and would very likely run the series since most of thhe races are with in an hour from here and the spec class just went out the window.
beefgravy 04-07-2009, 09:18 PM Well to hear everybody so disappointed sux. I cant leave the slash at home, it is all I have. I bought my two slashes just to race them in the big Morl races this year. I have been practicing and very excited to race it in the Morl. Hopefully this goes well.
I could care less what the rules are in the box stock. I want to run the titan and I want to run only with other slashes... I would like to use my m8 radio. All i want is for the rules to be set and not change again so that I can BANK on them and start focusing on the fun.
Mac The Knife 04-07-2009, 09:44 PM Ditto. I will be curious to see how the lap times will shake out.

carbon madness 04-07-2009, 10:37 PM From my understanding on the slash class rules based on what other tracks run, is that it has to be box stock, with no mods done to the chassis although some tuning can be done.
Any radio could be used, as long as you keep the stock servo in the truck.
Must use the stock ESC, stock traxxas motor titan), and must use the traxxas tires and wheels (although I really don't see an issue with the pro-line wheels as long as they have traxxas tires)
can use any 2s li-po (not sure if there is a mAh limit or not tho) or a 6cell ni-mh. (I know LHR in the only place I have seen that makes a battery rule being up to a 3800 stick pack ni-mh (no li-po's or matched ni-mh))
some place allow for the traxxas alum. outdrives, and shock caps as to make the truck tougher, not as a performance advantage.
Some places don't let you use RPM parts, although I don't see the issue with running them.
For tuning, you can change anything that has a tuning option on the chassis (say there is a differnt shock mounting location then that is ok), I think springs as long as they are trxxas springs, you can change the shock oil, change the pinion to any of the traxxas pin's.
That is all I remember off hand for the slash spek class. Although I do know one thing if you want the class to work then you should do what the rest of the US is doing for that class. The roar class is just a normal stock class, and is not the same as the slash spek class, so don't mix rules for the spek class and the roar class.
I don't race a slash, but that is what I know the slash class rules to be, not what ever roar wanted for rules.
FishRC 04-07-2009, 10:45 PM With the changes in the industry since our origianl meetings we did have to make chagnes. ROAR announcing SC class rules and Associated SC10 now out, we did have to make chages. The Slash class less spec than before??? The only real change there to the original announcement is now it is a Titan motor only class. I'd call that more spec.
The SC class had to happen, that or stock Slash would end up runing with SC10's and others that will likely be out this summer and fall.
As to the question of no more changes, I'd say it is VERY unlikely that there will be changes prior to the Litchfield race, but I would never say never. That is just the nature of racing.
Stateline R/C 04-08-2009, 06:32 AM its your dance... now for some warm dry weather come on summer
Apl Hed 04-08-2009, 08:51 AM I want to run the titan and I want to run only with other slashes... .
thats kinda like saying I want to race only T4's, I think we are taking this slash thing tooooooooooo serious, just bring them out and race, geeeeeez.
airconde 04-08-2009, 09:52 AM Hoop De Do :beatdeadhorse:
Leonard 04-08-2009, 12:19 PM If you use 2 different stadium trucks, you can run stock and mod right?
FishRC 04-08-2009, 12:45 PM If you use 2 different stadium trucks, you can run stock and mod right?
Yep! Some even do it with one truck, they just switch motors between heats. You just then run the risk of not having enough time to make the changes needed.
hankster 04-08-2009, 01:13 PM Heck, I run Masters and Mod with the same truck and motor. You could run mod with a stock motor.... might even be faster then if you had a mod motor in it :)
one18thscalerac 04-08-2009, 01:28 PM hey stateline im ready with a stock slash for fridays and one for the morl just hav to see what way everybody goes sc class or slash class

Mac The Knife 04-08-2009, 05:50 PM Ok, here is the scoop on what we will start with at Litchfield for the SC Classes.
Slash stock - No aluminum aftermarket parts, plastic aftermarket parts are allowed to replace the bulkhead, arms and outer hubs. Radio, receiver, servo and speed control may be changed. Motors in this class are to be Traxxas Titan only. All other motors including brushless are considered the SC class under ROAR rules. Must use tires that would normally fit on the Slash/SC10 rims. 1/10th offroad truck tires are not allowed. Cut tires are not allowed.
SC Class - ROAR rules in this class. Traxxas Slash and the SC10 are legal at this point, others may be legal but none are formally announced as of now. The Titan motor will be allowed in the SC class subject to possible change.
In all classes the only approved tires to this point are: Tire Patterns - Proline 1076 or 1078; AE 9809; Traxxas 5871
I just left Nick's store,,, His intentions for Slash Stock, is a Stock Slash. Supposedly ONLY Slash tires can be run in the Slash Class. (He caught me fondling the new Proline switch tires that had came in).
So, it may be to the best interests of the Rule making body to get this hammered out and posted.
Now back to our regularly scheduled rototiller race:thumbsup:
Stateline R/C 04-08-2009, 06:54 PM thats what they said at the meeting i went to.
420 Tech R/C 04-08-2009, 06:59 PM SC Class - ROAR rules in this class. Traxxas Slash and the SC10 are legal at this point, others may be legal but none are formally announced as of now. The Titan motor will be allowed in the SC class subject to possible change.
No disrespect and not trying to start a debate, but the slash and sc10 are not the only ROAR legal short course trucks .The rules were also made to include the thunder tech racing corr truck which uses a solid axle/4link type of suspension.Roar also states that the critical dimensions (wheelbase, track, over all length, weight, and body dimensions) are in place for other manufacturers to use as a base to design vehicles for the class. I only bring this up because I am working with team academy to help design their corr truck based on the gv2-t stadium truck. All our dimensions are within roar specs for the class. Will I be able to run this truck in the SC stock class( not slash spec)??????If you need the critical dimensions Before hand Or would like to inspect the truck before hand, Not a problem.
Fred B 04-08-2009, 07:07 PM You guys are makeing a mountain out of a mole hill with the whole "Slash Spec" thing. With the fact that the aftermarket plastic has pretty much zero advantage other than being tougher what's the big deal? I mean seriously guys get real.
I'm going to run the SC class so I can run brushless. Guess what it will be a "stock" slash other than the motor, spedo, and tires. Bet it runs just fine with the SC10's by the way.
And on the tires thing, I can see the whole "stock tire" deal for the Slash class but you guys better not complain when the "kit" tires don't work worth a crap at track "x" and it's no fun to drive.
420 Tech R/C 04-08-2009, 07:14 PM FRED what is up?? I cant do conans tomorrow, but I am down for saturday for sure!! Rick, I see you lurking down there too, wanna run some laps @ conan's sat?????
Stateline R/C 04-08-2009, 07:45 PM they dont work worth a crap anywhere thats half the fun.
Stateline R/C 04-08-2009, 08:02 PM when is ken's race?
jasburrito 04-08-2009, 09:57 PM Interesting... now there are 2 SC classes (which have never been run before) but they fail to recognize the 1/8th scales as an "official" class even though they raced in the series last year.
gone, seems post was a waste of time
Whatever
rustyw 04-08-2009, 10:43 PM I actually might buy me a Slash now and run it in the series with you guys! I mean come on theres only a hundred of em on rctech forsale now that the SC10 came out
Bet in a few weeks I can trade a brushless motor for one:woohoo:
Mac The Knife 04-08-2009, 10:57 PM Comcast guys have all the money,,,,,,,,,,,,, cheap bastards.

carbon madness 04-12-2009, 12:07 AM What tires noramly work at Litchfield?
hankster 04-12-2009, 01:46 AM Step pins are a good choice.
sbrady#0 04-12-2009, 09:46 AM has any one done any thing to the track or is it the same as lat year. I loved the center of that track
420 Tech R/C 04-12-2009, 10:00 AM scott, fred B said some guys were going to go work on changing the layout up.I forget when he said it was happening.
sbrady#0 04-12-2009, 03:12 PM with the nice weather out I cant wait to get out and run
420 Tech R/C 04-12-2009, 03:26 PM with the nice weather out I cant wait to get out and run
I'm fixxin to go do that very thing right now:thumbsup:
carbon madness 04-13-2009, 02:55 PM Step pins are a good choice.
Thanks for the info
Also I belive that step-pins will work at all of the other tracks as well, except for battle front (I think that is a hole shot track if I remember right).
Tdevil 04-13-2009, 03:05 PM Thanks for the info

Yup, holeshots, double ds, I think the guys were even trying goosebumps at BFG.
Just about anything but step pins, lol.
Loony 04-15-2009, 03:32 PM Fred,
I would love to help out on the track if you need it...
...just let me know when
I can bring a stock/mod truck and a sc10 for jump testing if you want.

Loony 04-26-2009, 01:31 AM just over 3 weeks....!!!
Who's pumped?
carbon madness 04-26-2009, 07:23 PM I know I am, and being that it will be my 1st year running the whole series (I hope anyways) I can't wait to get started (I did race at Jones last year, and had some issues that I should have worked out now lol).
As for classes I don't know what I will run yet, but I will be mixing it up in mod 4wd buggy or mod truck. Or maybe both if I feel like it. :D
kwiksi 04-26-2009, 08:32 PM So what tires work at Litchfield for 2wd buggy and truck?
420 Tech R/C 04-26-2009, 09:18 PM step pins!! pretty much anything with a deep open step pin style tread to it. and be preparred for the good old fashioned loamy soil blown out track conditions after the first round of qualifying. The track at litchfeild seems to like to develop new "jumps" in the run lines of the high speed sections of the track throughout the course of the day
Loony 04-27-2009, 04:06 PM Yes step pins rock at Litchfield.
We have been getting pounded with rain so maybe the base will be packed well but your right it will still get turned up on race day.
