View Full Version : Proxy Racing Series? Is it possible..

Another thread.. started by Mike King (MKing of Washington state) proposed a question about Tyco 440x2 vs. Tomy SuperG.. it got me thinking, usually a scary proposition.. But, here are my thoughts.. that I decided to start this new thread instead of going off topic in Mike's thread:

Sounds like a proxy race is in order? Maybe a multi-site proxy race series?! The hamster wheel is spinning in my head....

How about.. (thinking out loud) a proxy series.. where, everyone who wants to participate submits a car to a race coordinator.. under predetermined specs for each car. The race coordinator, then labels or numbers each of cars.. and determines the race series schedule (Maybe the race schedule could be predetermined). All of the cars are boxed and sent to the first driver & track. The driver has a few days to give each car an honest run and record a qualifying type run with each car, on each lane of their track. The results are submitted to the coordinator and the box of cars are shipped to the next driver/track.. When the cars have made all the rounds and all the results complied.. and released and a series champion can be crowned.

I don't know.. will that work? I know it would take a leap of faith and a lot of trust for each of the drivers and participants. Maybe a photo tracking system could be devised.. where each driver is required to submit a photo of the box of cars before and after racing.. It sounds like fun.. but I've always been known as the guy with the crazy ideas. :o

Thoughts?

Hay Robbie,

I know where we can get a track to run on ;-))

Also, how about a "Postal Race". It's and IROC race in a way for the car, not the driver. The car rotates accross the lanes, the drivers stay put.

They send us all the cars to run on the Scorpion. You, me, Craig, and Fly drive them all.

I like adding the term postal to "Postal Proxy Racing Series".

I think I was thinking bigger then just our group.. But, I follow what you are saying. It was just a thought for discussion, I think it would be fun. It would be possible to have a group of drivers at each race stop in the series.. but I think the results should be reported independently for each driver.. the race would still be about which car performed the best over everyone's different driving styles over all the different layouts and track systems.

if we need another venue i volunteer talbot hills (4x16 scorpian like maxtrax)

i would be up for organizing a tomy turbo, super G, or G3 based event. i dont mind hosting other cars, but i cant tune other brands as well

We do it in 1/43rd every year. SCK (Slot Car King Cup). There are eight races, points are awarded for every race. There is a Pit Stop option. The race is international with races held in the US, Canada, Austria. It is really fun building cars for this event and then seeing how they do. There are 27 cars in this years event.

There are TONS of proxy races that the 1/32 guys do! Vintage, specific manufacturer, different classes based on motor, etc. You put together the best car, ship it out to the proxy coodinator and your car gets shipped around to a dozen or so tracks that can score and keep up with the points. By the end someone ends up the winner with something like an RTR car, controller, or something like that as the prize that may have been sponsored by a retailer or vendor.

I've heard they are fun....I've never participated because I just never had that time to build a car to survive the series.

A proxy is definitely feasible and there are plenty of formats - just do some searching and you will find them.

In the HO proxy series we were going to do the promoters supplied the class cars, in this case it was the Tyco 440X2's and my Late Model body. The proxy driver then bought the car for a predetermined amount, in this case it was $20 and we would run the series. After the series was over the car would be sent to the proxy owner, along with any winnings. That series was dropped when my son in law cancelled his plans to move to LA.

We have plans for a series later this summer using Lifelike CoT cars but they are sent to us in whatever paint scheme the proxy want it raced in. We're hoping to have two tracks by then so we will have a short track and a longer, possibly trioval, track. All the driver has to do is send the car and a $5 money order so we can return the car once the series is done.

I have the #99 CoT already, nobody drew it for the upcoming series so it should be good once we get to the proxy series.
