Any advice on how to build a track? Ive got some ideas, but ive never run them buy anyone who has built one. We've got some room with some elevation changes. I've got a crap load of 5 and 6 gallon buckets. And i can get as many as i want. What do i do?:dude:

first you need to know if you're going hold races or is this going to be a practice track. Then you need to know what scale will primarily be run at this track. In my experience, a smaller track is easier to maintain and won't need a bobcat to build. One of the practice tracks I've built, I kept the lay out simple for the novices and still challenging for the fast guys. At that time we ran everything from 1/8 to 1/10 electric and found that if you make your layout to run stock electric trucks then all of the other cars can run providing the lanes are wide enough. A good practice track should have a rhythm section, some kind of a hill or obstacle in a corner, and a jump or two that slower cars can roll while faster cars can clear. The idea is to make the track and then figure out the racing lines around it and not to constantly change the layout to suit driving styles, other wise you won't gain anything. hope this helps. Where is the track going to be located?

thanks el camino. that is helpful. As far as holding races.... we dont have lap counters/ timers or anything. but the more the merrier as far as im concerned. i would like to build a nice "practice track" that is usefull. Im currently into 1/8 scale gas buggies/ truggies, and does'nt everyone have a gas mt? I'd like to have an oval surrounding the track that can be worked into the offroad track. As far as the jumps go, do you build 100% out of dirt or can i bury buckets, drums? i hope so cause ive got about 250 buckets in my garage! I can get the drums too. What about indoor outdoor carpet on jump faces? Ive seen that on some tracks... What is the purpose. To resist erosion or what?

you should make the jumps with dirt or if you make a table top with plywood stay away from carpet it only causes problems when it rippes were are you making the track

I put carpet on my jumps for low maintenance and great traction. You could get away with using buckets with carpet on them but it would have to be in a slow section so they dont break or flex when you go over it. I tried to cheat and use two 55 gallon drums for a filler in a jump and between the rain eroding the dirt off and the cars coming up short and breaking up the dirt on top it just would'nt hold up for very long. With an oval outside the off-road the only thing to make sure of is not to have jumps that block your view of the lane behind it. So where is Massillon?

Massillon is just west of Canton. About an hour south of cleveland. Where are you from, and where is dirtrunners track located? Do you go to the track in medina? Im new to the racing scene so this is all new to me... do you know anyone who needs buckets? LOL
I only have about 250 of em. Do you use a dirt clay mix? I could pick your brain all day about how to build a track. Thank you for all of your input, for the most part i have had all positive experiences with my new found hobby. Thanks again
