Any comments, reviews...warnings?
There is a movie theater on post that shows relatively current movies for free Saturday nights. That will probably be the only way I'll see it...for free.

No, but I've heard nothing but complaints about it online.

The Spirit was well received in Worcester (http://208.112.77.53/datebook/moviereviews.cfm?titleid=13746&date=12/26/08&start_time=NOTPASSED&end_time=NOTPASSED).

it's a visual feast, with every image lovingly framed and lit (and mixed with special effects) so that there's always something interesting to look at.

I saw it opening weekend. I thought that it was a good "popcorn" movie. It's not gonna be a big blockbuster, but I liked the general feel of the film as well as the look of it. I never read any of the comics, so I don't know how it compares between the two. Some parts of the film had an "over the top" thing about it, but I think that was intentional.

Kinda light on the story, but fun to watch. Just don't expect something on the level of Iron Man or anything like that.

The aggregate rating on Rotten Tomatoes (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_spirit/) is 14%.
But no, I didn't see it.

It's like Sin City Lite with (deliberately?) bad acting.

Why does it seem that, when it comes to movies, 90% of everything Frank Miller touches turns to runny oatmeal?

I saw it and thought it was OK. The look was almost as if you were watching a comic book - not sure if that's clear or not - but if you see it you'll see certain scenes that look like comic book panels. I didn't think the acting was bad, kind of a cross between corny and 50's innocence. Watch for Frank Miller's cameo.

My son (11), on the other hand, thought it was "pretty cool; actiony; kept my eyes open". He didn't understand all of the story, but liked the shooting and fighting parts especially at the end.

Wasn't as bad as I was lead to believe it was. Some bad acting, but it was more likely bad direction. Dialogue was cringe-worthy more than once. At times it was straight out of a comic book, very 2-dimensional. Other times it was fine. Eva Mendes'... err... assets looked pretty good, and were shown off a majority of the time.

Was kinda sorry I paid money to see it, but it wouldn't be horrible on cable. Better than Babylon AD, anyway!

There are 17 Frank Millers, according to IMDb.
Frank II;
good; Sin City, 300, Batman Year One [Begins], Dark Knight Returns comic.
bad; Robocop 2 and 3, The Spirit, Dark Knight Strikes Again comic-too weird.

Sin City 2 in 2010? Why so long? It's been in pre-production for years.
