As a now inactive ebay seller I can give you some insight. I believe alot of sellers feel the same way too. Selling in the states is easy.. No forms to fill out, easy to calculate shipping, etc. The minute you start talking customs forms people get figity. I finally started selling out of the country near the tail end of my selling once I got the hang of it. There were only two I had to mess with, and one went ok, the other was almost a total loss.

I did notice one more deterrent with the shipping aspect of it. Shipping out of the country costs a bit more. Paypal doesn't distinguish between item cost and shipping cost when payment is made. They charge their percentage on the whole transaction, so higher shipping costs means a bigger paypal cost to the seller.

Here's the loser example... I sold a stupid battery powered train set just to get rid of it. Some woman in Sweden bought it at the last minute for $1.04. She wanted it sent to her daughter in Puerto Rico. The shipping was about $11.00. I charged her $14.00 for shipping as I had to make 2 trips to the post office. The paypal fees were close to $3.00, because of the cost of shipping. If I hadn't bumped the shipping up I would have paid $$ to give the train away.. It's nothing personal... Just extra work + higher shipping costs that = higher paypal fees...

You could have an friend here in the states to receive all your purchases and consolidate them into one "gift box", but you'd be paying for shipping X2 when it's sent to you, unless that person holds it for you and you make the trip cross border to get it. I agree the whole thing is goofy, but government BS usually is...

Most people will ship to Canada, it is usually says usa only because of a few reasons
1) When you list an item with a 5 dollar shipping most people dont realize it will usually cover the trip to Canada. If you state in the auction as you list it you ship international they wany all kids of info on the package, so it gets listed as ships to usa.

2) Since paypal requires proof it was shipped (tracking #) and will side with the seller if a package is lost or the buyer is a liar. Also I am always getting this from the people I ship to in Canada " No tracking, or insurance because it hangs the box up in customs" So I ship it and hope all goes well.
3) they see other auctions say usa only and they fugure there are problems shipping out of the country so they follow suit and list it usa only.

Note: People here from HT I have never had any trouble with

If you see something contact the seller, I hope this helps

As a defected Canadian I can answer for you.. Customs....means a trip to the Post office. In the U.S. we can print postage at home drop it in our post box in our front yard and the mail man takes it to the buyer.. ship out of the lower 48 and you have get in the car, go to the post office.. have one clerk serving 50 people spend a good 30-45 minutes in line, fill the Canada customs form. basicly ship from home or lose a morning.. I'll ship to Canada plus if there is a problem I will send my first cousin Louie who lives in Kincardin to your house on his Snow Crusier to steal your sled dogs...(LOL)...

All I can say from one Crazy Canuck to another is just move on. There are many people that will ship to Canada no problem. Sometimes it is a pain for them but the guy that wants to make money will do this. Ebay has made it more difficult with its new rules and PayPal will charge more for international transactions to grab more money. Now guys can claim that they never received the goods and PayPal will give them the money back.
I just deal with those that will sent me the goods. Those are the guys you should be dealing with.

I stopped way back because people were asking me fudge on the custom forms. Lower the cost, mark it as gift opposed to merchandise and stuff like that. Any idea they could think up to lower their custom costs, they'd make a suggestion to help me out. :freak: Had a bloke from England that drove me crazy, finally I just asked him to keep his pounds or sterling. Maybe that's what he wanted to start with. :freak: rr

I stopped shipping out of country due to the fact of the shipping #1 as all have stated.
#2 is the last 3 items I sent out of country I ate. Buyers stated never received or it took to long I want a refund.
What are you going to do besides eat the cost or merchandise expense.
I got tired of losing and no gain on out of country shipping.

We ship world wide, just as long as the customer undersatnds that shipping charges. Shipping to Canada, is a few dollars cheaper than shipping to other countries. We will not ship overseas or to Canada, if we can't get the shipping price, with the correct amount of insurance and that's that. We do this to protect the customer and our company....that way everybody is happy. You must understand this!!! :)

The point of the whole thing, that we see, is that some people, out of the US....don't want to pay the fees. That's what make the problems for the other NON US customers. You know the old saying........someone srcewed it up for everybody else.

We will continue to ship world wide.....as long as the customer pay for the shipping & handling.

I will ship to Canada and elsewhere but I don't advertise the fact so I can check the buyer a bit first. I use a site http://toolhaus.org/ to check on past ebay history (not sure how great it will be now that sellers can't leave negatives). It's not perfect but has helped me screen things.

Usually I have something like "flat rate shipping to US". So you may want to check with sellers just to make sure they won't ship to Canada.

Great tool, I found my feedback ratings ( satellite4 ).

I live " outside the border" in Germany and I place about 60% on ebay us auctions.
Great stuff and plenty of "shipping only to the states".
In this case I try one time and send the question about shipping to Germany
under admission I pay via paypal, pay actual international shipping cost and in case of uninsured shipping it`s my risk in case of loss.

Most of the seller send me the OK, and about 5% send me a no go for international.
In this instance I talk to my friend micyou for shipping inside US

I've done quite a bit of shipping out of country with trains, slots and antique fishing lures I've sold on Ebay and haven't had any problems. I've shipped stuff to Australia, England, Brazil, Japan, Spain, Italy and so on. I don't really find it too much of a hassle filling out the extra forms and I always fudge the value to help out the person on the other end. Yeah, it's a bit trickier to calculate the shipping sometimes. A few times it ended up costing more than I thought for shipping, but all I did was to fax the USPS receipt to the buyer and they were more than happy to pony up with the extra $$. I just see it as a way to get top dollar for the items. Somewhere out there there is always someone with a bit more $$ and a bit more wanting than someone here in the States.
