View Full Version : Found in basement- any idea what they are worth???
duckryder 01-05-2009, 02:13 AM Im an RC oval guy on here and im at my parents the other day looking through boxes of my old RC stuff and I happen upon these. I remembered there was a place on here for this, so I figured I would see what you guys think. Theres a bunch of pics, There is 55 total and I would say 90% or more of the boxes have cars in them. Just wondering what they are worth or how I would find out.Might possibly sell individual pieces before long if they turn out to be worth something.

duckryder 01-05-2009, 02:19 AM hmm after the first two pics they seem to show up large.. dunno what happened there
duckryder 01-05-2009, 02:29 AM I know I have more somewhere, I for sure remember that tractor with a guy on it, as a kid, in the fav finds thread lol and car haulers and whatnot
SMS88 01-05-2009, 06:48 AM Minimum $20 each if containing a c9 car, and it is likely that some are worth $100 each, like the 46 Morris and 39 Pontiac if the car inside is good and the rarer variation.Wheel colour and paint colour makes a lot of difference to value,as does box type and condition. If your 38 Victor stationwagon has red seats and silver wheels it is likely to be worth more than green seats and black wheels.
A very interesting collection and please do show some closeups of the cars in the older boxes. The 33 Zephyr if it has grey not black or silver wheels with silver trim on the rear bumpers is a less common issue.....
karl-e 01-05-2009, 02:47 PM SMS is right, but I see a lot of the boxes are torn and missing flaps, this will have a huge negative effect to the value of the boxes.
If you decide to sell on ebay or similar auctionsites, I strongly recomend that you'll take photos that shows all imperfections. :dude:
There are some goodies there  I see several boxes that I'm still missing in my collection :drunk:
The Moutain 01-05-2009, 06:05 PM thanks for showing:thumbsup: , as sms88 said more picture are always nice:)
agree with karl-e about the condition of the boxes. as you probably know condition is a major factor with any collectable.
i am always willing to pay more for the most common of collectable when it is in very nice shape. i am hesitant to use the word mint.
price guides can be a interesting topic too;)
bluehemi818 01-05-2009, 06:06 PM Nope, they ain't worth crap. I'll give you $20 to take them off your hands.
duckryder 01-05-2009, 08:16 PM Thanks for the replies guys, Yeah alot do have torn flaps but there is a few almost perfect. Ive never really looked into these things thanks, Wish I never would of played with them as a kid, they were all mint as they were my fathers collection until I got ahold of them in the early 80's:rolleyes:
Maz HOF 2001 01-05-2009, 10:04 PM That's a super find. It looks like someone's collecting ended around 1964-65. Every Lesney collector, including myself, likes to daydream about such a find in the attic, or basement!

Please do share closeups of the 39 Pontiac and 46 Morris Minor with their boxes, and whichever of the cars you liked best way back in the 1980s. Hopefully you are ready to really enjoy these fine toys again, and maybe your father has some memories to stir when he looks at these again.....these toys are a bridge between both of your childhoods which can be fun to remember 20 & 40 years later....
The Moutain 01-06-2009, 07:34 PM i don’t know if anything can replace play value. :)
matchboxtom 01-07-2009, 01:56 AM Definately worth some $$$. Boxes are worth about 50% of the value. But torn flaps hurt. Still if the models are in very nice condition the collection is definately worth selling if you do not have great sentimental value.
terry9911 01-10-2009, 11:19 PM Yipes stripes!!!! I've seen boxes go for more than the cars themselves. But in todays market it might be different. Personally, I just can't fathom paying a sh*t load of money for just boxes unless the cars came with it.

Some collectors pay more for the box than the car because the cars are way more common than the boxes, and in the case of common casting/colour combinations, most collectors have the car but not the box.The boxes often have superb artwork and really do add a great deal of beauty to a display
I can remember my display before I got a bunch of boxes - here is how it looks now, 2nd pic is from almost 10 years ago -(1999 or 2000) and at the time included all my Lesneys except for beaters
