View Full Version : Right Front Wear
Tim Mc 01-05-2009, 12:26 AM Can anyone tell me what causes this type of wear on the right front tire? I have had this happen on a couple different RF's? It looks like the tire is bouncing making a ribbed look. Has anyone else experienced it and if so, what is the fix?
Sorry about the poor pics.
Thanks,

how old is the tire? from the looks of it and knowing the track you run on i am guessing it is a heat related or i should say over heating problem. Take the tire in your hands and squez it from sidewall to sidewall as hard as you can and see if the cap raises up..if so it has had to much heat in it at one time and caused the glue to fail or come apart from the host. That is one thing to keep an eye on if for no reason you cars handling starts to act up for no apparent reason..like one lap it turns fine in the corner and the next lap it gets to much grip and makes the rearend loose. Thats my best guess from those pics.
willyplankhead 01-05-2009, 01:19 AM i have seen it never had one myself do it that way i have had a few get a bead down the center of the tire the only fix i know is throw it in the gutter and buy another
Tim Mc 01-05-2009, 02:13 AM Mike, I'll try the squeeze trick tomorrow evening when I get home. I suspected the glue may have released, but the pattern doesn't look like the normal cap coming loose. Also, it has happened on another tire... both not terribly old. It might be my setup?!:drunk:
I was thinking someone told me they experienced the same issue earlier this year at LPR? Well, either way, I have an issue to resolve.
I'll post what I find.
Thanks,
Tim

Tim Mc 01-05-2009, 02:20 AM Shoot, I'll slap that bad boy on the RR on a hot day of practice for about 100 laps... that'll true it back up ... LOL:thumbsup:i have seen it never had one myself do it that way i have had a few get a bead down the center of the tire the only fix i know is throw it in the gutter and buy another
MSadler 01-05-2009, 02:56 AM i have seen them bubble in just one spot,or look like they got a case of measles or the most common one get a ring all the way around the middle of the tire.
jeffdavis38 01-05-2009, 06:37 AM Tim,
I had a front tire do that in the heat at LPR and ran it at Easley the next week and it was fine.
Tim Mc 01-05-2009, 08:38 AM The tire has good rubber left on it, so hopefully I can use it for a spare?
Thanks for the replies.
dpopham 01-05-2009, 10:06 AM Tim,
I had a new RF do that this year. Jerry Evans has as well. I think it's a compound issue, not setup on the car. Just my opinion. Didn't start to happen until I put on the new tire. I sometimes still run the old one and do not see this pattern.

Slider 01-05-2009, 10:19 AM Tim as of late i have several RF's and RR's do that same thing. Heat issue would be like mike said it will get the measels. I balance all my tires so i know it is not that. Im thinking which is dangerous,But i feel as though it is a glue to host or cap issue. I mark all my tires and they come back as those areas are never touching the track.. even though the tire appears true when just turning. My .0002 worth
Tim Mc 01-05-2009, 06:54 PM I don't balance my wheels so this could be a part of it. It reminds me of a car going down the hi-way with a bad strut....bouncing like crazy! I know my FR is not bouncing like that but it just don't look like a blister situation. I still need to go outside and squeeeezzzeee the tire to see if the rubber is releasing.....LOLTim as of late i have several RF's and RR's do that same thing. TillRodsFly 01-05-2009, 07:17 PM Note to self: Do not use BBQ grill to preheat tires.

Tim, I have seen this before and when my car did it....it was very tight on entry..i thought it was from to much steering causing the tire to skip from sliding across the track surface..not sure if i am right or not but when i was able to loosen the car up the right front straightened up and worked fine...Just over heated the right rear the next 25 laps but thats ok! a loose car is a fast one!!! just my .002 cents
Tim Mc 01-05-2009, 10:55 PM Show, it is definetly a problem I need to work on. You are right, I do need to loosen my ride up some. Just gotta learn how to hang on!!!:thumbsup:Tim, I have seen this before and when my car did it....it was very tight on entry..i thought it was from to much steering causing the tire to skip from sliding across the track surface..not sure if i am right or not but when i was able to loosen the car up the right front straightened up and worked fine...Just over heated the right rear the next 25 laps but thats ok! a loose car is a fast one!!! just my .002 cents

JUST CLOSE YOUR EYES AND SQUEEZE THE TRIGGER!!!LOL :woohoo:
TillRodsFly 01-07-2009, 04:14 AM Tim...The only logical reason I can come up with would be a glue issue. The only way I could see a tire wearing like that is if there were "beads" of glue/cement ran from side to side where at high speeds the "unglued sections" would be making more contact. Of course, if a brush or similar application was used to evenly apply glue, this theroy would be thrown out which is mostly likely the case since this seems like a rare occurance.
