When the weather is better we will get the sweeper out and clean it up. suggestion for an inside wall and an outside wall would be great. Currently if you spin and go down on the inside there is a 8 inch drop off. so something has to be done.

If it is possible to fill in to the edge with dirt and grass, so that the grass can be cut low to be even with the racing surface, that would be the best thing on the inside.

As far as the outside, as long as there is not a drop off like you talked about leave it alone. Ther does need to be a fence to contain runaways from getting into the pits or spectators.

Team T2C

Yea, That will have to have something to stop the Missiles that could be heading toward spectators.

At LPR we have chain link fence that is about 5' high. At the bottom we have a 2x12 to brace the fencing. It works great. Out outside barrier is NOT against the racing surface there is 3-4' of run-off room before the fence. I personally like this and it does not tear up an many cars this way. Also if one of the cars does go off-course or get sideways to the outside, that car is not bounced back into traffic like tracks with the outside wall right against the racing surface.

Thanks for the Suggestion. what about marshalling? Where do they stand on the inside?

Pages 6 & 7 of the QSAC rules has their minimum requirements for tracks.

1/10th scale the marshalls stand on the inside, just like always.

1/4 scale HAS NO MARSHALLS on the track. No way would I want to be out there with a 35lb car coming at me at 40+MPH!! LOL

In 1/4 scale you have two "Pit Stewards", they stand on pit road and will only venture on to the track during a RED FLAG condidtion. Under a RED FLAG all cars are to be STOPPED, so as not to endanger the Pit Stewards. The Pit Stewards only go on to the track if a car cannot correct itself. For instance it is stuck up against the wall and cannot free itself, stops running or slings a belt. Something like that.

You can check out LPR on the track site www.lagoonparkrcraceway.com .

Here are some other pics of the track on my photobucket pages:

I understand the 1/4 deal, But that is why you have yellow flags

I'm sure it will prove to be more expensive but I think as far as the outside wall goes, I would build it to 1/4 scale specs. The track is begging for those cars so you might as well be ready for them.

As for the inside wall; I'll stick with my dirt, cow manure and fescue. It's cheap, easy to repair and will not rip off a front end.

That's pretty cool, there are some of us from Altoona (TRS) that would more than likely come over.....I know at least three that would be definates including me for 10th scale pan car!!! Please keep me updated!

Will DO! We are excited, At least I am. John from BSR is going to work with us on compounds and we have many Drivers that are willing to come test. Even without the fences at this point. Before we get going, I am going to release the Kids for about 200 laps in the Go Karts to lay down a mean grove. We are not going to treat the track with anything. I believe it gives an advantage to the first heat and will not be consistent for others during the day. When I was in Virginia with a friend that had a huge warehouse with glass smooth concrete floors, we were able to run a shifter kart for about 15 -20 minutes and the grove was unbelievable tacky. The track is big enough to race karts so we might as well take advantage of the rubber they can lay down.

Unless you want to be bored, start thinking of lower turn motors. 17.5 4 cell was very slow "looking". Once we get it cleaned up will will be able to get some laps time averages with different motor combos.

We only plan on running this track a few times during the year with a couple warm up races, We do not have a local crowd that races, especially on something like this.

I was thinking more toward 13.5 or 17.5 2 cell LiPo! Right now were running 21.5 LiPo on carpet and there damn fast! At least a tenth or two faster than last years 13.5 4 cell NiMh class! Like I said before there are at least three of us that would be definates so keep us updated for any practice you might have or a possible opening day!!! Last year I went to Indianapolis for the 500 and inadvertantly came across the Veladrome track! Highly banked concrete oval! They were hitting speeds of 60mph or so on the straights! Can't wait!!!!!!

Team T2C
12-28-2008, 12:41 PM
I am sure you can hit those speeds easily, I played yesterday with a 10.5 2c lipo no wing. And I was avoiding the rocks that are in some spots which i didnt do so well, but it got a little boring by myself and the rocks. Once the weather starts getting nice we will get some walls up and start getting things worked out.

Shawn,

An idea for the bottom of the track...

PAINT an apron on the bottom in the corners at least 3 ft. wide in YELLOW, as a visual to keep guys off the bottom (Same principle of ICE) That way the racing line isn't 6" off the ledge, and guys will have a little wiggle room for getting out of the line w/o dropping off the track.

Joe, Just had a meeting with the Paint Guy about that. He said they can make a smooth finish that would be slippery. So we are looking at that. Track is so wide we can build a on-road track on the straight. LOL

Think about adding sand for traction.

we are looking for non traction on the Inside line.

MAN that track looks like it's going to be FUN :thumbsup: Makes me want to get into that lipo stuff well before summer hits. Or get another 10.5 or slightly hotter BL motor and run my 4 cells. Either way I'm looking forward to trying the track.

Yea, remember that tunnel you went through to get to J C hobbies after breezewood? That is when you enter the DEAD ZONE. Snows here before most places due to the Elevation. HMMM maybe that is why the track is so close to two ski resorts.

I remember that tunnel................from Pittsburg to the tunnel was the worst of the snow on the way home. So I'm guessing that the track is just west of the tunnel ?

Ok, So here is an Update.

Measured the Track

Inside Line 349.6 ft directly on the inside line. (inside against the gravel)
Racing line (proposed) 449.9 (only going up halfway on the straights)
Outside Line 538 ft

We are set and we will be testing with a few select people on the next good day that we get. And the track is smaller then expected which we figure is a good thing. I gues my speedo is off in my truck,

McLin
01-07-2009, 05:24 PM
ONLY 449.9 FEET??? Shoot, I thought this was going to be a BIG track! LOL Looks like I'm going to have to be looking for that 18t clutch bell again LOL

I honestly am sorry about that incorrect data. It was walk off with a rolling measuring tape.

Sorry guys if you are disappointed. If you all feel it is too short we can make it longer by increasing the insde line. We measured the inside line 1 ft off the bottom in both corners. we do have an additional 40 ft from that point to raise the inside line.

I'm going to guess a starting spot for 17.5 / LIPO on Caps will probably run around 7.0 second laps with a 1.76 ratio....geared to run 5 minutes. (At an average speed of just under 45 mph) which would be around a 4.40 rollout...

10.5 / LIPO would be INSANE on that setup!

We are looking at a Limited Schedule for 2009. we need to start getting to gether with others like 1/4 scale and Gascar to start locking it in. Hopefully in April weather premitting we will have a Test and Tune race to get people out to the track and give us some feedback before the season gets going.
