Just heard about this on the evening news a short time ago. Very sad, as she was one of my favorite character actresses from the 60's thru early 90's - particularly as Lady Eloise in Eddie Murphy's Boomerang - , as well as a very talented singer. And such a distinctive voice!

Sad to think she's gone, but at least she led a full life at 81. :(

She was an utterly unique personality.

I cringe when I hear the Madonna version of "Santa Baby", but when Eartha sang it.....GGRRROOWWWLLLLLL!!!!!

I saw her in a live play of the Wizard of Oz in Roemont IL in the late 1990's. She played the part of the Wicked Witch opposite of Mickey Rooney who played the Wizard. They both did a great job. What a treat!
