The 2009 QSAC Dirt National race will be at Timberline Raceway July 31st (practice) and August 1, 2009.

With our central location we are expecting a nice turn out for this event.

We are already in process of a complete re-build to the Oval track to include new bigger driver's stand with handicap accessibility ,hot pits, fencing of the complete track, automatic sprinkler system, new additional scorers booth, and additional parking.

I will continue to update this thread with Hotel information and some special things we plan on doing for the race!

I will begin to post some pictures of our new oval track. When/if, weather breaks. LOL

I just wanted to get this thread going so please ask away for questions. Scott and the folks involved in the last few years hosting this event have set a big standard. I hope to match there hospitality. I would like to thank QSAC for this opportunity for Timberline Raceway to host this event. I think it will be a great time to all to the guys/gals who make the trek to the midwest.

Hi guys since this is a dirt race what qsac rules apply...wing size....restrictor plate.

I'm new to the 1/4 scale stuff but dirt is what we run and are looking forward to this race allready and need to plan any changes need for it.

Looking over the offical qsac sprint rules everything looks fine but we are building 15 by 15 wings which is scale to a 25 square foot wing like WOO and ACSC and all other 410 and big 360 dirt sprints are running.

No big deal we got lots of lexan if needed just like the looks of the car with the 410 wing on instead of the 2 barrel wing...LOL

Glad you could stop in Mike.
QSAC has specific sprint rules for the 2009 season. We will be running these rules for the 2009 Dirt National Race.

Great that you got yourself a 1/4 pounder! You will really enjoy it. Now we gotta hope Wobitz has to work that weekend lol.

Hi Dave - How's the Track coming?

Going greaaaaaaaat!

I custom made my fence post 70 pcs.. Meaning I cut 1.5" tubing 8 foot long and used a hydraulic tubing bender to bend the last 18 inches. Just like the full size tracks the bend will be inwards to keep the cars inside the track. I will be finishing them this weekend and painting.

The chainlink fence was delivered last week.

I also cut the steel for the modification to the driver's stand last night. I will start welding that up in a couple weeks.

Bought a new computer and P A system for the scorers booth. Have most the electrical wired up and insulated in the booth and will pick up the paneling this Friday.

Real work is going to get in the way the next few weeks as I have jobs in Florida,Idaho and California that are going to require me to visit.

Annnnnd Deb and I are going to Mexico the first of March for a little vacation.

Other good news is alot of local merchants are stepping up to the plate to help with the Nationals!!

Hobbytown USA will be helping also, along with some QSAC supporting manufacturers.

When it ever drys out and I can get out and do some dirt work I will be posting some pictures of the NEW TRACK!!

I took advantage of 70 degree weather in February (Global Warming?) haha.
And with the help of Harris Excavating.

The dirt work of the NEW OVAL TRACK IS DONE!!

Runline of the track did not change much, right at 360 foot.
However infield went from 35 foot wide to 45 foot wide and the lanes went from 20 foot wide to 28 foot wide. Track was widened to the West also to include a 10 foot wide Hot Pit.

The track will be completely enclosed by fence which I have been pre-fabricating during these last few cold winter weeks. They are also done and painted.

I plan on starting on new Drivers Stand tomorrow which will include a ramp for those racers who need special services.

All I need is more weather like today on the weekends.

Debbie got some pics of the work today I will try and e-mail them to Chris K and see if he will post them for us?

A mutual feeling shared by all of us Dave . Sounds like your'e really doing alot of nice work on your place . At this time I'm not sure if Fred and I'll be making it to the Dirt Nationals , depends on time off from work , got it penciled in on the calender , if I do , I'm coming to race and not just watch this time . Planning on putting the old car back together and setting it up for dirt if I can remember what I did at Shaffer's a couple years back . Either way it sounds like you're really putting in alot of of time and effort for a top notch facility for everybody to enjoy racing at .

As Dave has requested, here are some pictures of his hard work getting ready for the QSAC Dirt Nationals!

First off is Dave and his pile o fences!!!!!!!!!! :)

http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/510/davewithfence_small.jpg

Looks happy, doesn't he????

NEXT we have another view of the posts - all neatly lined up and ready for grommets! (you'll have to ask Dave about grommets!)

http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/510/sideofpipes2_small.jpg

Here we have Dave at his happiest!!!!!!! Notice the big grin??? It never leaves his face when he's ridin' Big Blue!!!!

http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/510/enlargingoval_small.jpg

And finally you have a long distance shot of the track - you can get a real good idea of the banking and then just use a bit of imagination and you can see where the fence will go!

http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/510/biggeroval_small.jpg

Lots of progress has been made due to some VERY unseasonal weather over the last few weeks!

AND, hopefully the weather will hold up for the next few weeks and we can start 'planting' fence posts and that kinda' stuff!

For those who don't know - Dave is one of the hardest workin' guys in R/C - he is a very 'in demand' professional who works VERY hard (and long)(and all over the country - from FL to CA at present!) at his real job and then works his butt off on the weekends to create some of the best r/c tracks around!

So enjoy the pictures - Dave & his gang of helpers are going to work our butts off to make a GREAT QSAC Dirt Oval Nationals!

Is this different dirt than what you had last summer or more of the same?

Its different. Came out of the front pasture. Should hold alot more moisture and pack tighter. We will see? But I am installing sprinkler system so we can keep it damp pretty easy.

Kinda like Shaffer's but black?

Yes,
As long as I keep it damp it is very similar. When damp the cushion is the fastest way around.
If I would let it dry it gets very smooth and takes on rubber. So lots of grip in the groove but very slick out of the groove.

GREAT news from the LAND OF OZ!!!!!! (that would be KS lest anyone be cornfused!)

The stupid weather is cooperating!!!!! And as a result, the 'elves' invaded Southern Miami county for some work!!!!

First, if you are going to move a lot of dirt, you need a LOT of equipment - and some of it needs to be BIG!

http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/510/IMG_07041.jpg

http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/510/IMG_0667.jpg

http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/510/IMG_07051.jpg

AND, some of you probably recognize the 'players' on Big Blue and the skiddy steer - Commissioner Dave and Elf Billy Pappin!

AND, lots of work got done!

http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/510/IMG_0682.jpg

http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/510/IMG_0699.jpg

Power tools can be a dangerous thing in the hands of 'some' people - here's Elf Steve 'the toolman' Larson! No animals were hurt in the construction of this oval BTW... :)

http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/510/IMG_07101.jpg

and of course food at one of the many Miami county BBQ establishments was in order!

Chris K
03-22-2009, 10:37 AM
Then back to work!!!!!!

http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/510/IMG_07071.jpg

and the track is even beginning to look like a GREAT BIG Quarter Scaley TRACK!

http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/510/IMG_0728.jpg

http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/510/IMG_0731.jpg

AND, some work is even coming along on the off road track!!!!!

http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/510/IMG_0726.jpg

The new driver's stand is under construction and the grommet insertion is completed !!!!

Soooo, with a couple of more weeks of good weather, I would think that we'll be VERY close to QSAC standards (and beyond!) and ready to start our racing season!!!!!!!!

Hope you all enjoy!

and WHO'S idea was the 8 picture maximum?????? I'm NOT sure I can tell a good story with only 8 pictures.....
