http://southwesttour.com/images/toursponsor/mcallister.jpg

...As an incentive for our guys to try the NEW McAllister Velo Body...

I am going to put a $50.00 CASH PRIZE up if somebody running the McAllister Velo Body TQ's the Season Kick-Off Race on February 21st at the Encino Velodrome in the 21.5 class.

To further the Challenge, I'll make it $100.00 (total) if the same car also WINs the "A" Main with the McAllister body....

Sorry, I don't have a better photo...this was the body used for testing before it was trimmed and winged or had the height set...but you can see what it looks like.

Just a slight correction Joe on the our Windtunnel Bodies.

I believe our body you are referring to is the Windtunnel "XHS" Velo #WT2249H and WT2249. This is a very popular body for Velo racing and we have no intention of retiring it.

Our other High speed body is the "HST" #WT2241. Not sure if it is being used for velo racing but it is very popular on bank tracks.

Just didn't want anyone to be confused.

Hi Bill,

Thank you, and WindTunnel Bodies is welcome to create a WINDTUNNEL Body Challenge if you'd like.

Our racers always like racing for something EXTRA!

Joe,

I believe our Velo body designation is now very clear.

Here at Windtunnel we sponsor many events around the country. Some DIRECTLY and some INDIRECTLY. You could say your events are sponsored by Windtunnel Racing in an INDIRECT way. For instance. Take a look at the Sponsor for the forum section you are on at this time!!

Although the image is still the "Charger" body on the McAllister Web site, the NEW McAllister VELO body is being listed as the "NASCAR HIGH SPEED" body now, and still uses the part number of #197

The window mask w/ the kit is listed as "NATIONWIDE HS"

With the ultra generic look of this body, it will look great with ANY of the McAllister GRILL and HEADLIGHT decal sets, add to it a set of McAllister Numbers and contingency decals for the fenders, and you're ride will be looking SHARP~

I am not sure what is goging on here. it says velo body challange and talks about mccasllister bodies. then the guy from windtunnel gets on and tells us this:

So you can run either body for this challange? I thought it was just mccallisters

Splash,

Gary McAllister has been a very long time sponsor and supporter of our South-West Tour Series (http://www.southwesttour.com), and he recently modified his 190mm HS Body at my request. These modifications created a more generic looking body, in which guys can use their favorite decals to create the look of what ever body style they prefer. (it was formerlly a Dodge Charger)

To introduce this NEW body, I created the McAllister "VELO" Body Challenge for our Opening event of the 2009 season.

I put up a $50.00 PRIZE if one of our racers can set the TQ in our 21.5/LIPO class (Our largest class), and I posted an additional $50.00 Prize if that same driver can also WIN the "A" Main.

Ballistic Bill made some comments about their body (which really has/had nothing to do with MY challenge) and I also challenged HIM to create a Challenge to OUR racers to use His body. (The difference is, thier challenge is through Windtunnel/Murdock, and NOT from my pocket.) See the thread entitled "WINDTUNNEL Velo Body Challenge"

Now, our racers have 2 Body challenges to add a little excitement to our kick off event of the NEW Season on February 21st at the ENCINO VELODROME in Sunny Southern California.

....I hope that helps!~

Joe

I'm on board for the challenge, pic's will follow as soon as I finish it up. Just need to find a clever way to mount the wing and it will be ready for Encino.

Well! We need to keep tweaking... I got 2nd in the "B", but MAN I couldn't find any speed today...then I tuned what little bit I had OUT for the main.

Only saw a small handful of Flyin' M bodies...and they deffinately are going to take a little different for some than what they are use to....my kid got a COOL Pic of my car really dropping the tail end...I'll have to look through the pics and see what else he got.

(The GOOD THING FOR ME~ My money is still in my POCKET -- But I'd have gladly paid it out....to see some FAST times!)

SJacquez

Joe
I was running a Flyin M body. The best lap time I could get was a 10.5, a half second slower than the fast guys. I also found I had a bad speed control and had to switch it out for the second qualifier. Never got to tweak on the chassis or gear ratio much since I was chasing a speed control problem. It is going to take a different set up to make this body fast.

Steve,

Last year 10.5's didn't sound too bad, and that's what my body ran on Bryan's car then...

On my car, I can't find the top speed...but Bryan snapped a couple photos that I think will help to find it...

LOOK at how the car is buckling at speed and how much excessive squat it has.

Looks like you need a third body post in the hood.

swtour
02-23-2009, 10:09 PM
What's funny is the body rests on the shock mount, so it can't push the other way...I never thought about the wing forcing it upward...

I think I'll move the wing forward a bit too and a few other subtle changes....oh and this is with the car under full load in the middle of the 1st turn.

plus add some rear wheel disk to the inside and outside of tires  you would not believe the faning affect the rear tires give off at speed which is drag on the rear axle!!! it's worth a tenth :D

how did the new body work out Joe??

swtour
02-24-2009, 08:54 PM
dan...and what's funny is the 'wing' section is the full width, but only 1/2" long (The rest was all cut out - looking for something to reduce drag)

Jon, I've struggled with it on MY chassis...not sure what the issue is. It was fast on my son's chassis w/ HIS Motor/ESC, but with mine I'm .5 off HIS times. I'm studying the photo, and going to make some major changes. I may even mount a new one up and move it back on the chassis another 1/2 - 3/4"

rear of body lower than the front is not a bad thing, helps get the rear wing out of the air, but it does look like your rear shock need's ether more spring or possible just more angle, it's seems to be a bit soft... did the car have an understeer Joe????

67-4-fun
02-25-2009, 03:19 AM
try rounding the corners of the side dams and take the sharpe square edges off, this will help take drag out of the rear wing side dams... if you angle the side dams down on the leading edge, sorta like an arrow point, this will help on the leading edges cut through the air better

swtour

The wing is a PRP wing

http://rc4less.com/images/6%20inch%20Pedano_Wing.jpg

With all but 1/16th of the kick cut off, and about 7/16 of the actual cord of the wing still intact.

I'm not too upset by the rear squat - but I don't like what looks like the buckling in the front.

this body is kind of hard to make minimum roof height. The HIGH spot on the roof is at the windshield (which I like) but I could almost use another 1/4 inch of front nose area. (if I lift the nose to get roof height only up front...the body is a little higher than I want to go.) I can bring the back up a ton, but it doesn't really raise the overall roof height. (We have a min 4.5000" roof height rule)

I truely wish the velo was only 10-15 minutes from home...I'd be doing a lot more testing and stuff with this body...I really like it, now I just need to make it FAST! (And I don't like being a sheep and using what everyone else does)

Oh, and on the understeer issue... nah not really. it was a tad loose on the entry to turn one - and exiting two, but dialed in 3/4 (I think my line is just a tad different in the two) but I actually made that better with just a little more kickup on the little wing.

I run the EPA at 34%, with the D/R @ 50, and only use about 1/2 the wheel.

I was running a .063 "T" plate w/ a pretty soft spring (green), on my sons car we went up to a Silver Spring on th center, but we run a totally different wing/body setup on that.

02-26-2009, 02:25 AM
the wings i use are the kimbrough #327, i cut the kickup completly off and arrow the side dams on the leading edge, the squating i would say is because of the soft center spring, here in indy we may run from a 8lb to a 14lb with a floater pod, T- bar 10-12lb
