Now that the year is almost over, aside from Christmas gifts there is nothing to add to our collections so this is a fine time to look back at our collections and consider which 3 cars we bought this year bring us the most joy today? I would like collectors of modern Matchbox and vintage Matchbox to share the 3 models that best sum up their collecting experience in 2008
Here are mine:
The biggest surprise that got my heart pounding in o8 (aside from my wife that is;) ) was finding this tidy GREEN Caddy Sixty special for a mere $20 at our local toyfair. The gem of my Lesneys

I like this tomato coloured red seat Mustang a lot....

Third choice is a tie between the near mint D boxed gpw Zephyr 6 and the mint gold opening doors 46 SF Mercedes 300SE.As a tie breaker I will show a photo of the Corgi rockets colour trial which I like more than both (& it came from the same collector as the Mustang).I thought 2007 was the best collecting year ever, 2008 managed to equal it:wave:

I'm a VW collector, but I've always love the English Double Decker. My three favorite finds in 2008 are these:

I really have to bend the rules a little, as my best finds are not three individual cars
But here are my best Matchbox finds in 2008:

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j216/karl-e/soren2.jpg
Early Giftset - usually out of my pricerange, but got this box empty at a fair price, and the models were added later.

I've been looking for a boxed Ruston Busyrus for a long time, finally got one!

Last but not least, 17,5 kg of pre-1970 Matchbox (from all lines) My brothers collection, now mine :p Lots and lots of variations that will be added to my collection as soon as I get it sorted out

Merry Christmas

From what we have seen in the past, Mountain already has just about every vintage superfast variation to hit the stores so its a fine position to be in ,content with a complete collection:thumbsup:
Merry Christmas to all Hobby Talk contributors

What I bought back from the gathering of friends in New Mexico. Mattel team signed the model. My collector friends signed the box.

The hard to find green variation in perfect condition.

:thumbsup:I remember seeing those dealer displays as a child, but the way europeans throw everything in the trash very few have survived this side of the Atlantic.I want one but realistically will most likely never have one....

Hey Karl, theres a whole bunch of people here who dont need to visit MCCH, so why not share with them right here instead of advertising your amigo´s forum:wave: The Hobby Talk audience is different, younger, more laid back, less conservative and uncensored

karl-e that is a bit of a tease. looks like you will be shifting a few models around, plus a few catalogs:)

jedmario, like the shell tanker.

matchboxtom, that is cool idea having it signed by collector friends, what a way to add to the memories of collecting.

just to add something. how about a container i haven’t open for a little while, a few 90’s yesteryears, sort of a find. if i had to keep only one series, it would probably be the yesteryears models along with the lledos and the i would have really think about it

Sorry, no pics but my favorite purchases were:

1. A bunch of vintage Laser Wheel models.
2. More re-decos on the Avalanche (single BP and a 5-pack or two)
3. The Postal Delivery Truck finally being used again in the Nickelodeon 5-pack.

It's hard to choose! But after thinking about it for a while, I guess the first two of my favourites have to be these two, which were the first Matchbox cars I've had since I was a child. I was impressed with the detail and paint. No matter how big my collection grows, I think I'll always remember these ones:

Mercury Cougar

Chevrolet El Camino
http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/508/MatchboxElCamino2.jpg

My number 3 has to be the Smart - the first car of which I had to have the wheel variations and recolours... and multiple copies. I only own red right now but have the green SF on its way in the mail and the green regular on its way in a trade from a friend who is also trying to find me the yellow. I love this casting!

I like that construction set Karl-E:thumbsup:

I would have to pick the new 10-car set with the motorhome in it as one of my favorites for the year. All the vehicles in that set are keepers.

This is my other favorite addition this year. Been looking for a nice one at a decent price and finally found it. Just need to get some tracks for the dozer.

...and last but not the least my bucket trucks, the older red one and 2 of the newer ones were added this year.

'68 Mercury Cougar
Jaguar E-Type
'65 Austin Mini Van

Congrats to the rest of you for finding some awesome stuff in 2008!
