KB Toys Files Bankruptcy:

Published: Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 11:13 p.m.
KB Toys filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection for the second time in four years on Thursday and plans to begin going-out-of business sales at its stores immediately. The 86-year-old company said in a filing that its debt is 'directly attributable to a sudden and sharp decline in consumer sales' because of the poor economy. Filing for Chapter 11 protection rather than Chapter 7 liquidation allows a company to retain more control over selling off assets.

Got gift cards to KB??? ... Better use 'em up. nd

They used to be fairly easy to find where I live but I haven't seen one in years. There used to be one in a couple of malls I know of but I don't know if they're still there.

I was just in one today and everything was 40% off. No slotcars. I did find a Super Treasure Hunt for $.77 though.

I remember when they went out of business, I think I ended up buying half the store!

I think you can blame this one on Wally World. KB ran an outlet store nearby, some cool oddball diecast stuff of all types, promo cars too. My memory of the mall stores are of the oinking battery-operated pig shuffling around, and other cheap and noisy stuff, attracting every kid under 6 within earshot. Used to scare the dog with that pig - the pig didn't back down LOL.

My oldest daughter had one of the KB Toys pigs. If you think that pig is scarey, wait until you see magnetbearpig. That is REALLY scarey.

Don't forget overcrowded, messy aisles that you couldn't walk in stuffed with empty baby strollers while the kids from said strollers ran amuck in the store while Mom and / or 'baby's daddy' were too busy talking or texting on their cell phone to pay attention to their little demon spawn. :freak:

Eh -- aside from the Ferrari Challenge set with the two F50s for $19.99 many years ago . . . good riddance KB. Put a new store in that section of the mall that attracts less calamity.

I never once saw a slot set in any KB I've ever been to.

The last few times I've been in a KB, I couldn't find anything I would buy. They closed the outlet store a few years back, it's sucked every since. They have one at the mall, but I haven't been in it since last year. I'm currently on a shopping suspension. :(

Before Toys R Us really took over, the KB Toys I remember going to had slot cars and some really cool stuff back then. They were the store that had the Bburago F1 cars in that larger odd scale like 1/14 or something. We're talking late 70's/early 80's. I still have the Candy Tyrrell car in good shape.

The last time I was in one pretty much looked like what Doba described.

Both of the ones I have ever been into fit Doba's description to a tee. So I'm not disappointed since I stayed away for the most part. They never seemed to have anything I wanted to buy anyway. rr
