Just received car and very dissapointed. The chassis is modified, maybe around 2003 chassis not a 2007(new powder coat to cover up the damaged and bent chassis). The trailing arms are the new style, however the front spindles are the old style, not as stated above. I plan on contacting seller for compensation for this missleading post. I will post the outcome.:(

I have contacted the seller and I’m sorry to say he has no concern that he has committed fraud by representing he was selling a 2007 Lightning with updated front spindles. His only comments were that the guy he bought the car from told him that it was a 2007 and the he was a WCM driver and had no idea what the car was. He then told me he put new servos ($30.00 servos) on the car so I got a good deal. When I tried to explain to him that I did not purchase a 2003 chassis with old spindles, I paid for a 2007 car as was represented in the posting he hung up on me. I will take responsibility that I did not get pictures, but when I did talk with him on the phone(1st call on car) he said he did not have a camera but he throw out a couple of names of people I had dealt with and that they would verify that he was an good guy to deal with. Again I should have checked with them. I hope the seller sees this post and will contact to make this good before the end of next week. I would accept $200.00 back on the car to update the front spindles and re-coop a bit of the loss that the chassis is not a 2007. The only other thing he could do is take it back and reimburse the purchase price plus shipping. The last thing I will say on this is that everyone should be wary of dealings with this seller and I would be wary of the guy who posted this car. He should have verified what he was posting under his name. I will use this week to investigate my options with authorities concerning Interstate Fraud.

I have also posted a couple of pics.

I undertsand he says he didnt know, but if he drives WCM,then he should know his cars, and he should have gone through the car and checked any damages to list them, but at the same time yo bought a car without seeing any pictures at all,i would never do that.even if he says he doesnt habe a camera.well then a friend could have took them and helped him.Kinda your fault dude, you bought a car Blind.

Ya u shouldn't buy a car without seeing pictures but that doesn't make it right for some one to basicaly falsly advertise what they are selling, if it was supposed to be a 07 chassis that's pretty much new with updated spindles than that's what it should be, if you are goin to sell something then it's your responsibility to know what you are selling because what ever u list it as is what people are expecting to get

at the end of the day, it shouldn't matter if he didn't look at pictures or not. The post says 2007. Its pretty simple. I was warned about this after he made the purchase. We shouldn't be out to screw anybody here. He should man up for posting wrong info . I would at least offer to get him new spindles. That's just me. MAN UP!

I have been buying and selling cars for a long time. If I can not be honest about what I sell I don't want to sell it. I have bought cars that people said were ready to race and when I got them The only place I could race them to was the bench for repairs. Bought one sprint car and when it arrived I stripped it down and threw the chassis away, It was beyond reasonable repair. If I don't get photos trhen I look at it first hand. No more blind deals.

If you read the post the sellers name is the contact and the buyer knew he was dealing with Jim and not me.I am sorry if he is not happy and i don't think he is the type person who is blaming me for it.I am a straight up person and i would not sell anything to anyone without very good pics or they see it in person. You ask any of the racers who know me and you will see this.I will not make this mistake again.

I did know I was dealing with Jim not Chuck and I do not blame him. I do hope every learns to verify what they are selling for someone else or just not do it. It would be nice since Chuck is involved that he could get Jim to man up and make things right. I think that $200,00 back is fair, I might even be talked into accepting a set of new front spindles and hubs instead.

Chuck contacted Jim to call me, Thank you Chuck. Due to my work schedule today I was not able to talk to him, but his message said to let him know what the updated spindles run. I contacted Jeff for the price and its $190.00 for the spindles and hubs(must run new hubs with spindles). I figure there will be sticker shock with that price, but that just shows why the posting of a 2007 car with updated front spindles is so far from a 2003 with old spindles. I will let everyone know how this works out. Thanks again Chuck.

The saga of the Faux 2007 lightning continues, I did contact Jim Hardie today with the quote for new spindles and as I thought he balked at the price. He said he would only replace the spindles and not the hubs, even though you can’t use the old hubs on the new spindles. He said to buy the stuff and send him the receipt and he would pay half. He still insisted that I got a good deal and he said I had no right to bring this up on the forum. He said if I was a real man I would have kept it between just us since it’s not anyone else’s business. Unfortunately this is when I had gotten fed up again that he doesn’t understand that I paid for a 2007 car with updated spindles, not a bent 2003 with old spindles and voiced my displeasure, that when he hung up on me again. I will purchase new spindles and hubs and send him the invoice and we will see if I get anything out of him. With that said, I will not say anything bad about this person, instead I will let this transaction speak for itself and if you guys run into Jim Hardie at a local race say Hi for me.

If the car was an 07 chassis it should have all the new pieces already, not any old ones wouldn't you think?

Bryant, You are right on! If the seller is not going to man up and do what's right and provide the upgrades that he advertised and used to sell this car, then he should pony up a refund and pay to have the car shipped back to himself, in Va.

Car was not bought from Va.I am tired of people who don't know me downing me over this crap.I have done everything i can to try and get this thing cleared up.Yes i made a mistake by posting this car for someone else.Anyone who wants to run off at the mouth about me needs to do it to my face and not over a computer.

Thank's Chuck

It is very easy to tell the year. First of all it was a chassis that was built before the use of the current trailing arms because it has the stock shock mount for the old trailing arms which are forward of the axles. This dates the chassis to at very best an '03 itself. In either '02 or '03 Lightning started using the aluminum trailing arms which rear mounted both shocks. The first year they did it, the LR shock was mounted inboard of the frame rail on the top, as this chassis is. After '03 or '04 they were all outboard.

Second is the motor plate is the old style that doesnt allow the motor to be layed down, which they did until '05. Another is the throttle servo mount was originally mounted near the carb, then cut off and moved on this car. Lightning has had the servo mount up front since '06

Third, the RF upper control arm mounts are longer and slotted. This has not been done for quite a while.

The chassis is in bad shape but it does have what looks to be an '07 powder coat job!

I would personally value this car at $400-$500
I think buying spndles for $190 is an easy decision.

Well I am done with this guy. I have tried to just voice the facts and let them speak for themselves, but now I will join in and say what a lying cheat Jim Hardie is. I have gotten some info that he knew exactly what he was doing. The car was an old dirt car that was junk. He only paid $350.00 for the car and put 3 $40.00 servos on it and included a radio and receiver which is selling for $30.00 on Ebay. He purposely misslead this ad with the purpose of ripping someone off. Please watch out for Jim Hardie with all your dealings. I actually hope enough people see what he has done and maybe they bar him from participating at any quarter scale events.

RAD, I am sorry about this deal gone bad! I was wondering why you would need to repowder coat a 07 chassis and now I know, to hide a screw up chassis. But it's like I figured someone else knew about this deal other than Hardie. He' on the radar!
