Interesting documentary playing on the Sundance Channel about the archiving of a thousand boxes of research Kubrick had done on all his films starting with 2001. While I wish it had been longer and more in-depth, it's definately worth a look for Kubrick fans (though Stanley Kubrick:A Life in Pictures still reigns as the best Kubrick doc, imho).

Interesting; thanks for posting.

Agreed.
And then there's the amazing Jeremy Bernstein interview...

Kubrick didn't grant many interviews, and he almost never allowed his comments to be recorded. This four-part series, conducted around the time 2001 was in pre-production, remains the best (and, for that matter, only) first person account of the filmmaker's early career.

There's some really cool stuff scattered thru-out, including Sue Lyon's audition tape for Lolita, a memo detailing why Kubrick wanted to sue the pants off Gerry Anderson over Space:1999, and footage of Kubrick directing Full Metal Jacket. You also get a true sense of how obsessively Kubrick researched every single detail of a film before the cameras would roll, and why he considered this both a blessing and a curse.
Truly a fascinating guy.

I just watched this http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5739282975440441779
Thanks CD for the link, but I didn't see anything regarding upset over Space:1999, which leads me to believe there is more to this documentary?
It was fascinating. The guy defines obsessive/compulsive. Reading, categorizing and filing fan letters speaks volumes about his nature. He didn't just want it right, he wanted it perfect—always. Amazing attention to every possible detail.
