Newbie here. Just ran my first indoor carpet race last week and my new Losi RX-280 in a Mini Late Model burned up on the second race. The replacement motor is getting really hot too.
Any ideas for me? I am running 16:60 gears and 1600 MAH battery and everything is stock. Dj

It sounds like you have too large a pinion. The stock one is 17 tooth, I don't run it on any track I run on. How long is the track run line?
Have you checked to make certain the drivetrain is free? Can you spin a rear tire (with pinion backed off the spur) and everything spins freely or does it slow down immediately (indicates too much friction)?
These motors have a tendency to run hot and not last long. Also check to see if your motor brushes are hung up in the hoods (another common problem).

thanks for the reply Nutz. I thought I had a 16 pinion, but it is a 17t. We run on a basketball floor. I would guess the straights are about 30 feet or so. Maybe my whole problem is the pinion. A buddy of mine is running stock too but no heating problems for him. Gears seem ok, easy to turn them all and not much drag. Dj

Try to go to a 14 tooth pinion. We have, and they seem to run alittle
cooler without losing much speed. Rick

Make certain the brushes are free in the hoods, the springs are placed correctly, and the shunt wires are soldered tight. I had one new motor that came with one brush spring installed outside of the slot in the hood. It ran but ran hot very quickly.
