I am thinking about getting into the model train hobby. I used to run trains with my Dad when I was a kid in the 1960's. Now that we bought our own home, I have the ability to do whatever I want here and I want trains. Does anyone have any pictures of their layouts or pictures of layouts period ? I would like to look at some of these to get some great ideas and tips.

Hi Bert,

Welcome to the M.R. forum. There are probably still some layout pics around here; check out the threads. Do you have any ideas about what kind of trains you want?

Hey Bert,
If you click on the "photo album" bar at the top of the screen and look for phots FV-11 thru FV-13 you'll find 3 photos of my old layout that was taken down, for a new and better designed table. The layout is 15 feet long and 22inches wide all turnouts were controled by a push pull rod systed that worked well until a last minute addition of a stream blocked access to one turnout. Ooops next click on he "model Railroading" file

There is some good stuff here http://cprr.org/ about the CPRR.

How much room would you like to dedicate to a layout?
Do you want something very realistic like weathered engines, cracks in the roadway and curtains in the windows or do you prefer something that is a little less work and has a high fun factor.

I prefer O scale and more fun than serious modeling.
But there are plenty of both and everything in between, not to mention all the scales available.

Speaking of O scale, there used to be some nice 2-rail DC V&T 4-4-0's made. Nice looking, although I don't know how they ran. Lionel made a V&T from their General tooling, and so did MTH.
