my charger says 8.405 at peak volt and i cant get it to go any higher.Which would be ok but....on a voltmeter it says 8.32.how can i make my charger go higher?

jose, i could be wrong, but i would think that the only way to get the charger to peak any higher would be to set it up for 3 cell lipo's.

While I don't have experence with the Checkpoint charger I would suspect it is measuring voltage in the chrager. Since you have voltage loses in the wiring and plugs, you see this voltage loss. Some chargers have voltage sensing leads to directly measure voltage at the battery.

I don't believe you can change the cutoff voltage on the charger. Shortening the leads as short as possible should minimize the voltage loss.

last night my chargers said 8.403 all night and 8.40 on the volt meter!

mine says 8.403 on the charger and 8.39 on the volt meter. i use 2 foot long charging leads so im not sure its the length that matters so much.

Nope, if it reading the voltage at the charger and you have a voltage drop in the leads, then the battery will get less voltage then the charger is putting out. You could also check all of your solder joints on the plugs that are on your charger leads and battery.

make sure it isn't set to Lithium Ion instead Li-poly.

Are you using the GRC Volt meter or another and have you tested more than 1 volt meter?

mine,grc,chucks,and leads on a t.35 all so 8.34,8.35 after charger cuts off at 8.404

I noticed the same thing last night. The checkpoint charger read 8.405V and the track voltmeter read no higher than 8.25 all night. BTW, I was using the same track voltmeter as Alan.

It could be the chargers mine read 8.40 on the charger and the voltmeter.

I let al use my volt meter. Mine came out the same as the charger charger said 8.40 meter read 8.40 I love lipo

You can't make the charger go higher, you may have a bad cell in the pack or it may be out of balance if using a lipo. Are you using a balancer? Also how do you have the charger set up, I'm assuming that your pack is a 7.4volt 2cell by info the other reply you have, I would balance the pack if you haven't already.

So, last night I charged one of my packs on my GFX so that it would be ready for practice today. When I got to the track, my checkpoint charger refused to charge the pack stating that the pack was above the peak voltage of 8.40 (the checkpoint was reporting 8.89V). Concerned, I checked the voltage using the track voltmeter as well as a fellow racers checkpoint charger and both read 8.39. I purchased a new checkpoint and it read 8.39. I think that this is a problem with specific chargers. I am going to send mine in for service/re-calibration.

I can't speak of the final votage on Lipo's while using a Checkpoint, but I burned out a FET while cycling NiCD packs with it, and customer service was fast, and easy to deal with. There's a 5 year warranty on them.

I have the checkpoint charger why can I only discharge at 10 amps(lipo pack 2 cell)? It says you can do a 30amp discharge must be for the relic packs only

set it for 6 cell with a cut off of 1.0 volt per cell. then discharge your lipo pack at 30 amps.

Nick I dont seem to find where to change to 6 cell do you mean 6cell nimh?

on the menu you can change the battery type form lipo to nimh by turning the know till it highlights then pressing the buttom and then turn the knob again to change the type. (bare with me i no longer have one of these chargers so i have to think) I believe you can set it here for the cell type and cell count. Once you do that scroll down to set the discharge amp the same way, then the cut off to 1.0 volts per cell. The 30amp discharge on this unit is a step discharge on for 2 seconds then off and so on. It takes awhile.

Geeez this is opening my eyes to a whole new subject, might have to look at my Checkpoint now, LOl........ I never even look at voltage, but then again, i am not a true A Main guy I race for fun......... I just hope the Lipo is getting all it can get and go race, LOL.........

Speaking of discharging, I have not been able to discharge on mine for some time, do you know if I can send it back in and how much it will cost to get that fixed........

If I change it to nimh I can discharge at 30 Im not going to risk it I ALMOST CAUGHT A TRAILER ON FIRE ALREADY LOL

Firebug, I have the Ice version. Only 10 amp but programs the same way.( I think)

30 amp discharge on the TeamCheckpoint is pretty slow, as it is pulsed discharge. It's about the same speed as doing 10amp linear.
