Please help!!! I can't decide what 1/8 scale nitro buggies to choose i want to get one for basing and one for racing I have about 350-400 dollars to spend on ea buggy for bashing I was thinking a Ofna LX comp or a Duratrax Raze and for racing I was thinking a XTM XT2 Track Edition, a Ofna Picco buggy or a Hyper 8.5 and i am a beginner in nitro but I race a RC18B on a oval and stadium carpet track anybodies input would greatly impact my desicion because it is a lot of money so i want to get something good so please help thanks:)

Of the buggies you mentioned the Hyper 8.5 is the only buggy I would even consider racing at all. I would look in the fs/ft section or eBay for an older generation car like the Mugen MBX5R, Kyosho 777, or the Jammin X1x. Those three will be alot more durable than the cars you mentioned for bashing, parts will be easier to find, and the they will perform 10X better on the track.

But remember there is no vehicle that can go both ways well. You design them for one or the other due to definate design differences. A race truck will bash better than a basher will race, so I would opt to buy a racer

With the release of the new Team Losi 8ight 2.0, the prices of the old 8ight has dropped quite a bit. Even though the 8ight isn't the most recent 8th Scale buggy, it is still an excellent buggy. It is extremely durable, great for racing, and are very common. It helps if it is a very common buggy, because your local hobby shop usually has parts, and there are people that can help you with it at your track. I have had mine for over a year now, and have had nothing but success. I am running the new 2.0 now, and I am very happy with its performance. If you want to, you can always upgrade the old 8ight to the new 8ight 2.0 sometime down the road.

I just saw the original 8ight kit for under $300 at A-Main Hobbies. You really can't go wrong!!!

I agree. The older 8 is good for racing and bashing. Parts are really easy to come by. :dude:

I owned an OFNA Ultra LX-1 RTR for my first season of 1/8th scale racing and that buggy is about as tough as they come, and fast!!! The .28 engine that comes in that buggy will give you more than enough power to compete with the high dollar race engines, provided that your track allows engine rules to be broken on RTR buggies. IMO, that buggy will give you a good taste of 1/8th scale racing, and it will keep you on the track enough to get some experience. Then, as your skills and budget allow, you might think about a higher end racing specific buggy.

I also own the ultra LX one. The only problems I had were the steering knuckles. They are made out of cast aluminum and will brake. I did notice the kingpins were loose once and was able to put more stres on the knuckles. If you get the LX one, buy a good steering servo and the jammin CNC knuckles. The ofna .28 will really give you a taste for 1/8 scale. I raced against the losi 8 though and man I want one of them.:dude:
