View Full Version : Need some recommendations ;-)
JimmyMack12 12-11-2008, 10:42 AM Looking for recommendations:
Looking for suggestions for chargers and power supplies, and approximate costs. Gonna try and run NiMH 4600's with a 19-turn (Truck) at the 'Birds. Can't afford a Turbo 35, that's for sure ;-)
Might go brushless/LiPo here after the 'Birds. Looking for recommendations on motors and ESC's.
Looking for some foam for my toolbox to keep stuff from sliding around the bottom compartment. Can you buy this stuff (similar to bumper foam is what I'm looking for) at like Home Depot or Lowe's?
Looking for setup sheets for a Leading Edge T2. I'll take a look over in the "Product Support" section as well.
'Preciate the help ;-)
Danny B 12-11-2008, 03:43 PM I'd recommend a Competition Electronics 23 amp power supply and a Duratrax Ice or Checkpoint T-130(???) charger. Both charger will charge NIMH and LIPO packs just fine. The checkpoint is a little more expensive, they are the same charger the checkpoint just has a couple bonuses like a backlit screen.
Just remember if you buy junk you buy twice.

Try Pelican Case Products
Trinity has a new power supply that is worth looking at
Charger: Checkpoint all the way..............
Andy Koback 12-11-2008, 08:30 PM I've had the LRP Pulsar 3 for awhile now and love it. Does Nimh and Lipos with no problems. I beleive they run around $150ish.

By far the best charger for the $150 range. May even be better that the GFX for charging.

MiniT18 12-11-2008, 09:09 PM I've been using the Orion Advantage (the carbon edition) and love it.

Also...looking for setup sheets for a Leading Edge T2. From what I understand, this is an older car, though. Any help is appreciated ;-)
Thanks!
CClay1282 12-12-2008, 01:29 AM Jimmy, i would PM DaveW here on hobbytalk about the LE t2. He might be able to set you up with a setup sheet.
yokman 12-12-2008, 08:49 AM you really need to update your chassie aswell as your is good but it is about 10 years old now and NO one I know is running it.buy the new FUTURE chassie and ya got all the help ya need on the car.
DrtRcrM87 12-12-2008, 11:45 AM As far as set-up sheets, check the LE Future support thread. They've been chattin about set-up sheets recently.
mkaye24 12-12-2008, 11:55 AM i just wanted to say "reading this thread made me feel good about r/c in general. I mean everyone jumping on board to help out. This is cool to see/read."
JimmyMack12 12-12-2008, 06:09 PM Can't afford a new chassis just yet ;-) Just bought the T2 today ($250 for car, 4 motors, 4 bodies (including a brand-new-in-bag Taurus), and about 20 sets of tires, a Tekin, and four sets of 4500's) and tryin' to get back into the swing of things here with the pan cars. Sure do 'preciate all the help everyone has offered here. Lookin' to go to the 'Birds in January - I live about five minutes from the hotel ;-)
Looking for a spring-rate chart if anyone's got one posted somewheres. Don't matter what company...
DaveW 12-12-2008, 06:19 PM Jimmy Look back through the Hangman thread, there are a few setups posted that will make for a very good starting point for the T2. There will be a number of us at the Birds that will give you any help that you should need.
JimmyMack12 12-12-2008, 08:18 PM Thanks, DFave...'preciate it. ;)
One more thing...what do y'all recommend for a good brushed/brushless ESC? I'm thinking Novak GTB but I'm open to other suggestions.
yokman 12-12-2008, 08:58 PM I like the GTB but some say the LRP is faster. And don't worry,DaveW will be there ALL week and he dosent race so he will have more than enuff time to help you. Check out muddslide or rc4less for sum spring charts. Muddslide sells a nice complete kit with all the rates and a nice box 2.
JimmyMack12 12-13-2008, 07:13 PM How good are Spektrum servos? Should I replace it with a HiTec or a Futaba? Looking at getting a new radio for the pan car along with the brushless ESC...
yokman 12-13-2008, 07:27 PM you wanna pick up a futaba 9650! Kinda the norm for pan cars and will last forever.
