Get ahold of Tom Pedano, he makes the best scale set-ups around!! He can do 2 or 4wheel set ups.

Exactly what is it that makes his better?
Better looking, or better performing?

I use an 11-1/2 X 16 piece of MDF leftover from a shelf,
and scales from Lefthander.
I want someone to tell me why it won't work as good.
I can do 1, 2, 3, or 4 wheel setups....

Its like the old argument "Ford versus Chevy" :)

My thinking is "if it works for you then go for it"

Pedano's boards are nice.
They have a bubble level on the surface and the legs are adjustable. They are also a quality cabinet type material. He makes a 2 scale version and a 4 scale version.
The Older style board he made years ago also had a flat surface (level) to set the chassis on. With this feature you can measure front king pin sag, ride height etc. On a LEVEL surface. I still use mine and its over 20 years old.
The Pedano board functions the same as your MDF board.

Its what you are comfortable using, and confident in using.;)

I have tried to use another racers board and scales. Its not the same.
So if it works for you then go for it.:wave:

Not meant to start an argument, but just wanting to let you know, the Lefterhander board that was given to me over 2 years ago, came with a bubble level and adjustable legs...Just like the one pictured above...

No problem :)
I think its more of what you are comfortable using, and confident with the results that it gives you.
The pelouze scales on my board are over 20 years old!!
I wrap them up in bubble wrap, and handle them as gingerly as my radio when transporting them. :p
Dan When I searched I found the pic. Also saw where you are really partial to your PDF board

Lefthanders 4 scale board and "new" scales are the best.

I understand what you were driving at, to a point..
My point was, is that Pedano's piece is nice,
but, like mine, and Hay's, it's only as good as the guy
putting the car on the scales, and reading the numbers..
A piece of MDF is as good as a piece of particle board
with a piece of formica on it. Or a piece of Corian.
As long as it is flat, is really all that matters.
If you can take your scales, and switch them around
and get the same readings within a reasonable tolerance,
then there is no advantage to one over the other.
My comment was more on the statement that
one is "the best"...
IMO, and it's only mine, the cutouts for the scales,
only serve to limit what you can do with the board...
With a flat board, you can use it to check ride height,
which is just as important as corner weights.
I also have scribes on mine to check toe, and squares.
You can also use it to set your sandwich and drink on...

So if it works for you then go for it.:wave:

My problem with scale boards is they warp giving incorrect information.

I check mine every week with a Hewlett Packard

Guaranteed to be balls on accurate...

How thick is the MDF you use? I have seen a few of the popular ones with a bit of a bow in them.

I make scale boards out 5/16 acrylic with 2 scales that are fixed position. Also have a carrying case for it. Use to make them and sell them and I'm thinking through a new design and may offer them for sale. The acrylic I use is clear and can be painted underneath to match your car paint scheme. I load up a pic of my newest board when I get a chance.

I'm also thinking about a design that uses carbon fiber sheet or aluminum.

I used the 3/4" and find it to be quite stable.
Especially with such small pieces.
Much more so than plywood..

Just for the heck of it, I just put a 24" straight edge on the
one that I have been using for years,
and I could only slide a .005 feeler gauge under it in one spot...

I'm not really that good to notice any difference in a setup
that small..

I was thinking about getting a 4 scale one so I can do cross weight a little easier too.

10 1/4 x 14 1/2.

I would need to do some work on putting together a full package deal. I'm working on some other options that are even better than this board. The cases cost me about 20.00 each and I have to buy them in a minimum order of 10, this it the last case I have.

I'll work up some numbers and let you know.

We've been testing out a bunch of different scales and ideas the last month and will have something new out in the next month or so. I was always a fan of 2 scales but we've been doing alot of testing with 4 and am happy with the results so far, I'll get some pics up next week. Plus it looks like the newer scales we found will work for both the dirt and pan cars.

Bonespec, what materials and scales did you use?

BoneSpec

Two cheap scales from Ebay, a shelf board, levelling screws for a chair, then the bubble level.

I'm due to replace the batterys in the scales though.......

DON'T use two huge pieces of servo tape to hold them down......PITA to get them back off the board to replace the batteries!!!!!.

A nice board with 4 scales made out of acrylic, with the scales flush mounted would be nice, but I'm saving for brushless setup right now!

Bill,
Its made out of the same stuff our other boards are made out of. 3/4" laminated melamine. This board uses a torpedo level across the tops of the scales so all the pads of the scales are level, which is the important part. Its a little more accurate than using a bubble level.
