DICKJ45 12-11-2008, 07:11 AM Great and i am planning on making the trip.
Maximus Raceway 12-11-2008, 09:14 PM So any other racers considering attending this race?
lidebt2 12-11-2008, 11:39 PM Is there a 21.5 lipo class?
Is there a 21.5 lipo class?
According to their post above, it says they will race
any class with 6 or more cars...
So you only need to recruit 5 more guys...

My dream would be to find 5 guys to run 21.5 Lipo and 13.5 one cell
Hell, if Obama can become President, well, I think we can make this happen. :p

LOL. Good one
my dream would be for all this lipo stuff to figure it self out so we can just pick one battery and go with it. thats my dream and hitting the lottery for like 10 million dollars, i think that lottery ticket has better odds. lol
Racin'Jason 8 12-21-2008, 09:12 PM Mike,
It's real simple...and we've figured it out for gear that most of us already have:
1 cell Lipo 17.5 - true sportsman or entry level class (touch slower than stock) already been tested in the Northeast.
1 cell Lipo 13.5 - direct 4 cell stock/17.5 replacement. Becoming a regular class in Plattsburgh and will soon replace their 17.5 Pro class.
2s 21.5 - replaces 13.5
2s 17.5 - replaces 10.5 (I doubt this will take off in the Northeast, but who knows)
The true beauty of Lipo lies in running one pack all night (no joke) and the weights 36 oz 1 cell, 38 oz. 2s. Low tire wear.
...and, at $47 - $57 for a 1 cell pack, we're loving it!
Also, who's to say 1 cell 10.5 won't replace 13.5 - there you go - one battery!
ovalmaster 12-21-2008, 09:15 PM I will run 1 cell lipo 13.5 with you Jason. I'm sure that Dick will also. There, we already have 3....3 more to go!
Antonio
i hear you Jason, i think that 1 cell is the way to go classes like you said, 1 cell 10.5 for 13.5 speed then a open mod class that would be fast like 10.5 but probably not so fast that it is undriveable. plus for all the guys in our area, it means the best chance that guys dont have to go out and buy motors. this is the direction that i would like to see, i am going to run lipo at the brl race so i am interested to see what it is like
FLYINGFINN#8 12-21-2008, 09:55 PM I'm going to race 21.5/LIPO. Jason you are right lipo is so much easier. People need to give it a try. I know its new but so was DVD,ipods and cell phones at one time. The single cell will kill the nimh in the end, just like brushless killed the brush motors.
Alan Behler 12-21-2008, 11:19 PM i would like to run 21.5 lipo
Racin'Jason 8 12-21-2008, 11:58 PM The single cell will kill the nimh in the end, just like brushless killed the brush motors.

So pretty much all I'll need to get for the swap over,
is a motor, a battery, a charger
and maybe a receiver pack?...

No motor...you own a 17.5 and 13.5, right?
Upgrade your Turbo for $50 and buy a $50 battery. I didn't think about the receiver pack as I've been running one for years now...got me there. But, you can get one for $35 with a charger.
$135 bucks only buys 3 NiMH packs! Think of the savings in tires alone.
Disclaimer: I'm not the type of guy that gets excited every time something new comes along...I've been back and forth on this for some time now - until I tried it - it's def. the way to go
Tommygun43 12-22-2008, 12:30 AM I would be interested in running 1C/13.5.

I was just being a smarta$$ more than anything, Jason...
No... I don't own a 13.5 anymore..
That bombed out here, like the 10.5 I got before that...
So I dumped them both to get the 17.5...
so I would have to get that...and the battery... and the
charger upgrade/or new charger... and receiver pack..
Disclaimer: I'm not the type of guy that gets excited every time something new comes along...I've been back and forth on this for some time now - until I tried it - it's def. the way to go
I'm sure it is...
It's just that every time something comes out to save me
money, it ends up costing me money!
I tend to go along with Big Mike M.
I'd be happy to go with something new...
AS LONG AS WE COULD AGREE ON ONE THING!
It's the dancing around from one "next greatest thing" to
the next that chews my a$$....
(you coming in January?)
Racin'Jason 8 12-22-2008, 01:56 PM I'm sure gonna try...I miss Maximus.
I've been following the weekly results - what happened out there? Where did everyone go?
Tommygun43 12-22-2008, 03:25 PM It's just that every time something comes out to save me money, it ends up costing me money!
Dan, I'm just curious...what (other than brushless) has come out that was supposed to save us money, that has ended up costing us money?
(I think it's fair to say brushless has saved most of us money in the long run, but I'm not debatin' that today)
Like I said, just curious, I'm probably missing something here.
I think you're just being difficult today :)
I've been following the weekly results - what happened out there? Where did everyone go?
Good question...
I'm sure if you ask several people,
you will get several answers.
It can't be the track... (it's a great facility)
It can't be the guys that race there... (I don't think)
To me that leaves one other major possibility..
Cha-Ching.... read: disposable income..
Had I not sold my old beat up van...
I prolly would be AWOL, myself... :drunk:
This area has always had a rollercoaster curve for r/c oval
participation... I think right now, we happen to be at
one of the low points on the curve, AND the economic picture
isn't the brightest, at the same time... so it's like a
double whammy... here any way..

You're right, Tommy... I'm just difficult!
Brushless without a doubt is cheaper... easier....
I knew that from the start.. I love it!
My problem, or I should say "a" problem up here was,
getting everyone to decide what they wanted to run....
While we were still running brushed, a couple of guys got
the BL setups.. with 10.5's. It was a gas.
Everyone was in to it, and we were going to do brushed
and 10.5
So I got that... got rid of my cobalts/Monsters/GTX..
After burning up $18,000 in tires, guys said screw this,
lets do 13.5... after all... it's what EVERYONE does in
the rest of the country...
I thought that was great.
Sold the 10.5... got the 13.5....
Well.... it was better than 10.5, but it never took off either.
This area just likes "stock" racing... and I do to!
So then I sold the 13.5, to get a 17.5....
Those classes seemed to like one type of tire
(as you know!) so I got a bunch of those..
Been running that, and I like it... but I was just 'behind'
all the time... found out they don't like the same tire as
the 13.5/10.5.....
..... sold all the tires I had bought, and got the others...
SO, and don't get me wrong, I'm not pissed about any of
the past... I have fun whether I win, or come in last,
but it just took a l o n g time, and a lot of
trading around and bucks...
to finally arrive at where we are now...
I know NOTHING about lipo at all....
I just read some stuff on HT... and see that there are
many different options now with that.
I just don't want to get into that same deal that we did
in the beginning with the BL... that's all.
Believe me... I'm a guy that buys used stuff almost
exclusively.... I haven't bought a "new" battery pack in ages....
The guy that always rags on me for being so long
winded GAVE me two decent packs a while ago...
I think he was bribing me to write smaller posts...
(hi Alan..)
So I am all in, for buying ONE lipo pack!!
I just want to get ONE combo... and have it last for
more than a month!
And don't get me started on having to take computer lessons
to operate a new esc...!!
Racin'Jason 8 12-22-2008, 05:18 PM And don't get me started on having to take computer lessons
to operate a new esc...!!
Dan, if you have a GTB or LRP...run it! Forget about the magical ESC crap - leave that to the people that miss spending all week in their basements building motors...they're just bored. lol
Alan Behler 12-22-2008, 08:10 PM now that is funny
now that is funny
you guys coming up?

I only see one logical option, the SMC single cell.
Cheap ($50), light (less tire wear), fit in current cars without needing a new chassis or moving electronics, will be able to use current motors, speeds similar to stock (not too fast), no need to balance a 1 cell.

Like I said.... let's do it.
But let's do it ONCE!
Tommygun43 12-22-2008, 09:56 PM ok, but I already have.
There's a 13.5 for $40 shipped in swap & sell btw.
dadandsonrcnuts 12-22-2008, 09:58 PM Dan you have the best posts, 1 cell lipo sounds good I have a 10.5,13,5 and 17.5 a pulsa3 charger only need the batterys and Losi reciver pack with charger, so what like $100.00 bucks.
see you soon Anthony
Alan Behler 12-22-2008, 10:11 PM you guys coming up?
i hope to
Tommygun43 12-22-2008, 10:20 PM Anthony, this is one option for rx pack (of course see if Heath has them)

Maximus Raceway 12-22-2008, 10:25 PM I would really like to see a big turn-out for this race.
Hope to see you all.
Maximus
Bill Johnson 12-22-2008, 10:31 PM I'd like to run Lipo 17.5....Over....
Heathcliff, did you get my last PM???
DICKJ45 12-23-2008, 07:35 AM Dan i have an extra 13.5 you can use for 1 cell lipo. I plan on 1 cell 13.5 and 17.5 4 cell. Heath is a Lipo sack required ?
.. this is one option for rx pack .

Not knowing anything about these, never used one,
what is the difference between that,
and say something like this;

I was just showing what myself and a few others have been using. I would guess the rc4less pack would be fine, but that's just a guess. It's 1.4v less, 60mah less and weighs .2oz more than the micro t pack but I think it would be sufficient? 10 bucks is awsome. Might interest more people in switching with the price.
Maximus Raceway 12-23-2008, 11:43 AM Dan i have an extra 13.5 you can use for 1 cell lipo. I plan on 1 cell 13.5 and 17.5 4 cell. Heath is a Lipo sack required ?
Yes you must use a lipo sack. I have lots in stock $25.
Look foward to seeing you at the track.
Heath
Maximus Raceway 12-23-2008, 12:02 PM I'd like to run Lipo 17.5....Over....
Heathcliff, did you get my last PM???
Bill - Is it about the car picture? If so yes and I am a slacker...
So pretty much all I'll need to get for the swap over,
is a motor, a battery, a charger
and maybe a receiver pack?...
didn't know about the lipo bag....
another 25...:o
Racin'Jason 8 12-23-2008, 02:45 PM For those that like to leave the pack in the car all night...can we just put the car in a potato sack? lol.
The Jet 12-23-2008, 08:03 PM i hear you Jason, i think that 1 cell is the way to go classes like you said, 1 cell 10.5 for 13.5 speed then a open mod class that would be fast like 10.5 but probably not so fast that it is undriveable. plus for all the guys in our area, it means the best chance that guys dont have to go out and buy motors. this is the direction that i would like to see, i am going to run lipo at the brl race so i am interested to see what it is like
1 cell LiPo.....
17.5.............Entry Level class.
10.5.............Advanced class.
OPEN............Mod racers.
Why is this a bad idea??? It seems to have appeal to all racers, we just need to crack down and do it AND stick with it.
Later, Bret
Tommygun43 12-23-2008, 09:40 PM I don't think anyone said it was a bad idea, maybe I missed something.
There are two popular classes in the northeast, 4 cell/17.5 and 4 cell/13.5.
The equivilant in single cell should be 1C/13.5 and 1C/10.5. That's all we should need.
Of course mod for the big races! It would be great to have a big mod class at the big races again.
just my opinion
ovalmaster 12-24-2008, 11:25 AM also, don't forget it would be a good idea to create a beginer class and 1 cell 17.5 would be perfect. The problem now is that the cars are getting too fast for entry level (we had this problem with 6 cell and 4 cell fixed it.....for a couple of years anyways). But now, the track promoters have to come to the plate and create an entry level class with the 17.5's.
I think that we all agree that this hobby is in dire need of an infusion of new racers!!!
Antonio
55 slave motor 1 cell :woohoo:
JBCJP 12-26-2008, 06:04 PM 1 cell lipo 17.5 COT body
1 cell lipo 13.5 camping world body
4 cell 17.5 for any one not ready to change
The only thing needed is the 1 cell lipo that way we dont run off the few racers we have left.
Brian
FLYINGFINN#8 12-26-2008, 06:18 PM WTG Brian
Hey Health when are you getting some single cell packs in?
