View Full Version : Need some help testing shock seals for 1/10 shocks!!
I just got some new shock seals "o-rings" that are Simrit Fluorosilicone. This compound is used in applications were chemicals and solvents are present and the seal is not allowed to be affected (ie. swell up). I have some samples I'd like to give out to a few off road guys who run assoc. or losi shocks that would like to try them out. Please send me a PM with your mailing info and I'll get you some out to try. I'd like all your feed back good or bad.
Thanks,
Wayne
Here's a pic of the o-rings. They are .114" I.D. with a .06" cross sectional width.

Ok boys and girls, I have 30 people running different vehicles at different places. I'll have these out in th morning. All I ask is you PM me with all the info good or bad. Let me know how they go togather, there fit, how smooth the shocks are, if they leek, and how long they last.
If these work there are other sizes I can get. Metric, 1/8 scale size. and 1/16 ID for pancar side shocks.
Thanks,
wayne
cecce12 12-10-2008, 07:31 PM I would build some for the 1/18th losi slider shocks, they leak terrible. You have to rebuild them after every race.

What size o-ring is in there??
I have samples of some o-rings for the side shocks or 1/10 oval cars and also used in the center shock of a 1/12 car.

The problem with the slider shocks leaking (at least for me) is not the O-rings seals on the shock shaft. It is the fact that there is no real seal of the cartridge to the shock body other than the slip fit of the "bump" on the bottom of the cartridge as it screws into the body. Because of that bump, there is no room for an O-ring seal as there is on the Mini-T aluminum shocks.
I have thought of modifying the slider shock cartridges by cutting a groove in the cartridge for an O-ring. But since we are not running stock sliders at my track any more, I just put on the aluminum shocks with my o-rings seals for the shock cartridge. If you want some of those (for the aluminum shocks), contact me.

I only got a few of the o-rings for the AE/CRC shocks. I'm trying to get a few more in after the holidays so you guys can try them out.
jenzorace 12-25-2008, 12:30 AM Id like to try some. I also run oval pancars.
sarbubzim1127 12-25-2008, 11:33 PM I would also like to try some i run dirt oval EDM with tc3 shocks.
Right now all of the 1/8" ID samples are out being tested, thanks for all the inquireries! As soon as I get he side shock o-rings in I'll post and let everyone know. :) I've had some feedback already on the 1/8" ID o-rings and things are looking good. One thing that is very important with these o-rings is to lubricate them prior to assembly. Green slime or just shock oil would work.
I have had a set soaking in shock oil for two weeks to see the affect and there is now size change yet!

I'm getting in 100 more sample of the 1/8 x 1/4 o-rings for testing. I just got in a new o-ring lubricant to try with them. It reduces drag by 20%, doesn't affect the sealing, and will not "clump" if it gets mixed in with the shock oil. As soon as the o-rings get here I'll get some out for testing.
Also, the 1/16 x 1/4 o-rings for 1/12 shocks are currently on hold :( The pricing and minimum order is threw the roof, not to mention the tooling charge..
Hey boys and girls... I got a few samples of the 1/16 ID x 1/4 OD orings for the 1/10 oval side shocks/ 1/12 center shock. I have a few people now to ship some to, I need a few more!! I'll also be sending the o-ring lubricant for assembly.
dadandsonrcnuts 01-22-2009, 10:24 AM well thats cool can I still try some, I have some oval cars I run
PM me your shipping info, I need 1 more person.
dadandsonrcnuts 01-22-2009, 11:49 AM pm sent and thank you
jenzorace 01-22-2009, 11:56 AM Id like to try some. I also run oval pancars.
shoot your shipping info over! Thanks guys, I've got 20 people to get stuff out to!!
After going threw 400 1/8 ID x 1/4 OD the results were not good. Leaking was near zero, but the o-ring didn't last any longer then the standard red silicone o-ring. Some cases the o-ring tore at the mold seam. The same thing occured with the 1/16 ID x 1/4 OD o-rings.
Please let this thread die. I'm going to start a new thread with some other samples I just recieved from a different company!
Thanks for eveyone's help!!
