Hi,
Has anyone or can you run a Nihm pack for power instead of a lipo in a 1/8scale buggy ?

If so, how many cells would you have to run ?

My brother and his son want to get a 1/8 scale electric buggy, but can't afford the lipo's , and were wondering if Nihms would work.

thx,

dave

Sure they would work but the problem would be fitting them in there and the weight. Some are running 4S Lipo's which means you'd have to stuff 12 NiMh cells to get the same voltage.

yes you can run 2 6 cell packs if you set up the buggy to run it that way. i would only suggest doing this until you can afford lipos and a new charger if nessesary.
if you attempt to run the type of motors that are currently popular like the nue and medusa you will really put a strain on nickel packs.

Yes, it can be done and it can work. Here's a pic of my first conversion which I ran with NiMHs until I got LiPos:

search youtube for caster fusion there are some good videos on there where they use 12 3300's on a run and 12 4600's on a run and it looked good for a 8 to 10 min run.
