Yep, go to the hobby shop and get you another motor. Rebuilding or blueprinting an electric motor is not a rocket science, however placing a arm in a lathe and cutting off material from the com, you need to know what you are doing! If a motor is done right it will return the power that was lost and you know what will happen if it's done wrong. It will let out all that wonderful smoke that keeps motor running so good.
Any ideas, nope I was not standing deside you to see what went on! Sorry!

When you cut the comm, did you put new brushes on and break the motor in before taking it out and running it full out? Occasionally, the brush springs need replaced as well. Hard to give any real good suggestions without knowing more details about what you did.

Phil-
I always use new/re-serrated brushes when I cut the com. Cheap insurance!

If the comm needed to be cut, chances are the lubricant in the brushes was gone and they needed to be replaced. New comm cut and dried out brushes equal short to comm. Also as previous stated you need to break in new brushes to make them contour to the new comm cut. Break in a low voltage with a fan on the motor shaft and watch the temp closely.
