i had a question for for everyone, i thought i would ask here before i do this everyone on hobby talk are my friends and you guys are great people. i just dont want to step on anyones toes, i saw Pete Mckay post his vacuum forming process, and he did an excellant job love the man's work, hes awesome, but i thought about doing this myself, and trying to get ideahs on bodies, thought about making drag, monster trucks, indy, nascar, gto, muscle cars, bat mobiles, speed racer, ect. i want to have fun with it, and want to know everyones ideahs on this.

is this a good ideah? what i wanted to do is send everyone on hobby talk a body of there choice no charge just to see if you like it, and you can have it. but before i do this i wanted to make sure this would be okay, i dont want to upset anyone, i'm just having alot of fun and talking to everyone on here, i also thought about making all scales. i probably dont know what i'm getting myself into.

please if anyone has any questions for me or answers that would be great, i just dont want to get anyone upset.

thanks guys, and merry christmas to everyone here on hobby talk, shon

I don't see why anyone would get upset.... Petey posted his work because he enjoys it and wanted to share with folks how he does things. If he was worried about someone stealing his thunder he wouldn't have done it. I'm sure he'll pipe in and tell you himself.

I don't think you'll find too many guys on this site that are in it for the money, they all love the hobby and want to see other peoples work. Like Pete has said in the past, he's not going to get rich making bodies, he enjoys it, as long as you enjoy it too, it's all good.

Now... onto a body... it sounds ridiculous, but for a couple years now I have really wanted someone to do a riding lawnmower. I would LOVE to do an IROC race with a bunch of mowers hauling around the track. :)

Merry Christmas to ya Shon!

Hi Marty, thank you so much for replying to my post, i really dont want to make any money off of it, just want to have fun and to sit back and say " wow i just made that" i think that would be a great feeling.

and as for a lawn mower i think that would be cool, different, but would be alot of fun, i could definitly try for you and i would just send it to you, i could try doing a mold for a John Deere riding mower, when i get this process going in my garage i will look into that for you and just let me know how many you need for your race, and when your race will be for this i hope its after the new years so i have some time doing this.

i'm having so much fun with HO slots and just got my new carrera 1/43 scale track set, and now thinking of making some bodies.

what scale of a mower you need?

let me know thanks, shon:thumbsup:

Hell yeah...

If it will help...I race storms....super stock...

so a GP style would be about perfect...

thats sounds cool, GP style bodies would be great i might have to make me one up to when i get this going, great looking cars. i will let you know when i get this all going, thank you for your ideahs, i think once i get this all going and get the molds done it would be a piece of cake, it gives me something to do, and i enjoy detailing alot.

i dont know about doing this but i also thought about getting inside stickers made and paint it that way to, but that would be pricey, but it would look clean.

but for now i'm just going to make them clear, so everyone can paint them the way they want it, down the road i might consider air brushing. but thats down the road.

thanks for your post and merry christmas, shon:thumbsup:

A John Deere riding mower would be perfect! HO scale for a super g+/G3 type of chassis would be right down my alley. G-Jets squaring up John Deere style would be sweet! Four bodies would work out great, and I will probably gather up the local troops after the first of the year, so please don't rush anything for me, it's the thought that counts! You da man!

Marty one more question would you want the deck on the mower or would it fit better on the car without it and i'm thinking about lane width to, i saw this picture making it something like this:

lmk, thanks shon:thumbsup:

You are just never going to let that riding mower die, are you Marty.

Once I get my camera back I'll take some detailed pictures of my airbox and rack. They're not hard to duplicate. As far as making a mold is concerned you can even use existing slot car bodies and convert them. I have a CoT based on the Tyco NASCAR body and I'm in the process of converting a Tomy Toyota 88C into a mold.

Just remember that the plastic draws from the top and the mold needs to be removed from the bottom. If anything folds over the mold, as in being sucked under bumbers or around the sides, it makes it nearly impossible to get the mold out without cutting the body. I've had that happen doing diecasts in the past, so I generally use modeling clay under the car in areas where the plastic may be sucked into.

I don't have any secrets, if someone wants to vacuform I'll draw them whatever pictures they need to get it done. I'm not always in a position to give everyone what they want, body-wise, so if you can, shoot, go for it is what I say.

Shon, what I use a lot of times are silicone earplugs. They will stick the mold to the airbox keeping it from rolling off and don't break down when heated. And they can be reused.
