2008 has been a wonderful year for diecast even if everything else about 2008 can be labelled as challenging or stressful:wave:
There was a toyfair today, almost everything was cheap althought the blue cab transporter did set me back $23.The Ford stationwagon is very near mint as is the Pontiac convertible if only it had a windscreen:rolleyes: Both caravans are different, not only paintshades but also wheels - spw v fine tread gpw from the D box

And then there are the wun dolla bargains from the end of November, spw Ever ready truck and gpw Ice Cream van are vhft and blessings:)

It puzzles me to see that nobody respond when a fine thread like this is presented
I guess the only thing worth posting here is whatever you can throw in with the milk and butter from the supermarket

Beautyfull Husky blisterpack, VHTF colour-combo autotransporter, wonderfull Corgi jr. Thames Caravan, nice Crestas, rare and (even in this condition) desirable white Refreshment Canteen, grey wheeled Commer Ice Cream Van!!!!!!!!!!!! red Aston!! SPW ERF truck!!! :woohoo:
Uhhh, and whats the story with the blue/yellow flat-bed Thames ? who made that one?

Come on guys get your heads out of the toy-aisle at the supermarket, and smell the interesting stuff!!!! or is threads like this just "Pearls for Swine" ;)

Hi Karl:wave: Its always a pleasure for me to assemble the toy blessings I find every month and share them in the hope of inspiring other collectors to go and hunt out some fine vintage toys
The Thames Trader is a 1960s Blue Box of Hong Kong product, nicely made ,and alongside their Bedford trucks really do capture the looks of the original 1:1 and complement Lesney cars well scalewise
They dont stock Mattel Matchbox in my home city so I dont see or collect them or even know the range, and I must admit I dont look at threads about store finds because only vintage toys have magic for me....
Perhaps I should have posted these new finds on the vintage forum. In 2008 this forum seems to have lost most of its Lesney collectors, but then we have covered just about everything interesting over the past 3 years, and these are more of the same old toys with slightly different looking wheels to the last lot.
Perhaps Lesney collectors are also feeling jaded:wave: or bored :wave:with chat forums now that there is not really anything new to discover that we cant already google instantly :woohoo: for authoritive pontification  & instant gratification here http://homepage.ntlworld.com/d.jones7317/public_html/1index/xx175series.htm
My Lesney collection is now almost as complete as I could want it to be and I am pleased with my new fully stocked displays so 2009 will be the year of 1/43 Italian and Spanish 1960s and 70s made toys, so I can confidentally predict that I am moving on and will only start threads on the 1/43 forums in future

What super finds. I would love many of them. The blue cab car carrier and grey wheeled Ice Cream van would be the top of my wanted lists. They do make repro windshields for the Pontiac now. Not perfectly like the original but much better than none. Thanks for sharing your finds.

nice scores:thumbsup: where did 2008 go:freak: always liked the 74 canteen trailer (for a dollar very cool). like you said, good grab on the gpw ice cream canteen.

i do appreciate the internet and the easy way to explain variations via detailed pictures, what a problem it was trying to explain shades in writing. although i do miss the arrival of monthly bulletins in the mail and i still flip through numerous books , binders and loose papers for research.

these forums do provide a great way of cataloging and adding a time table to models. unfortunately not every thing spoken in the past made it to paper.

And now Lesney is well documented ancient history, all we can do is dot the ´i ` and cross the `t´ on subvariations......and discuss garbled myths and legends supposedly originating from factory workers or those who collected when the toys were new....

Vintage die cast collecting isn't cheap and some people just don't relate to the flea market, ebay, convention hunting. Don't down people because they enjoy this hobby in a way their finances allow. Maybe hunting while getting the milk and bread is their only chance to enjoy this hobby. If they could afford these vintage cars, don't you think they would brag about it. Vintage MB's are great to collect, but out reach of most collectors, physically and financially. BTW, these "gems" you're raving about started out in the "toy aisle" and somebody bought them while getting the milk and butter.

First of all; You will find me with the toys at the supermarket and usually bringing home a Hotwheel or two :p

I certantly don't "look down" on collectors that hunt contemporary stuff. This can be as rewarding as anything else.

To collect vintage Matchbox do not have to be that expencive, playworn examples often don't cost much more than new ones! It only takes a little more efford - but thats IMHO what makes it fun!
And to hold a 40+ year old toycar in hand just makes you go :woohoo:

Merry Christmas
