Wow... just got my first Monster Scenes fix from my LHS. (Ralph's Hobbies in St. Petersburg, FL... shameless plug) :D The Giant Insect and Victim!

What a blast from the past! I never had the Scenes when they first appeared back in the Aurora days... guess buyers down in the Bradenton, FL area were a bit skittish, as I never even saw them on the shelves. Nevertheless, when I popped open these boxes... the old Aurora 'magic' came back!

In fact, I've decided that I'm gonna leave these unglued, just snapped together... also, I'm gonna paint them in a similar style to the way I painted my Aurora kits back then. (Albeit in a hopefully neater fashion.) Since the Victim is molded in flesh-color plastic, I'll leave the flesh areas unpainted, and just detail paint the eyes, hair, clothing, etc. Same deal on the Insect.... gonna leave most of him in the bare green plastic, with good ol' Testors enamel accents where desired.

Good job, Dencomm & Moebius!

Don't recall the Victim price, was around $25 for the Insect. He's out of stock on Monster Scenes at the moment, expects more in after noon Friday.

FYI Tamiya's TS series Flesh colored spray paint is a 100% dead on match for the plastic in the victim. Nice thing about it is that it takes away the plastic look without changing the shade. I used it as a base coat then shaded over it myself. And since its a lacquer its very durable.

Heh... I actually have a can of that sitting around. Don't think I'll use it, though.... I like the plastic look... reminds me of the good ol' days... :D

... AND now the collection ( so far) is complete... picked up the Hanging Cage, Pendulum, Franky & Doc Deadly from Ralph's. ( Nightsky, before ya ask... he has a Deadly and a Victim still in stock, about $23 and tax.) :D

Also got a set of the classic Testors square-bottle enamels. Since I wanna do these 'old-school' style, the Testors square bottle paints are a must!

I'm hoping that these are selling well enough to prompt Moebius & Dencomm to produce the Pain Parlor and Gruesome Goodies sets.

Did a bit more work on the Insect today. Tamiya clear orange on the eyes and wings. Gonna need a few more coats on the eyes, but I kinda like the way the wings look with just 1 coat. Will look it over again when it's cured and see what I think. Also painted the indented 'spots' on the tail & body with Testors gold.

I'm diggin' this. A nice relaxing build & paint, like the old days. No messing about with seams... just snappin' the bits together and painting.
