decal paper, clear coating and a good software program to let you manipulate all the graphic files you'll borrow from the internet. :) rr

Hobby Lobby sometimes carries Testors brand. Be sure and get a 40% off coupon online before going. Check the weekly specials for the coupon...RM

The biggest issue with self/home decal printing is that you cannot print white. That is why I use an ALPS MD550 printer for all of slotrod65.com's decals. The ALPS MD5500 is the only printer currently on the market that prints white ink. Unfortunately, it is only available in Japan, and costs about $800-900. If you can live without white ink, then you can use a laser printer.
Decals must be drawn using graphics software, or at least traced from originals using a graphics program. Printing scans of any type tyoically gives you a fuzzy mess. (ask me how I know)...
To draw the decals, it is best to use a vector graphics based program like Coreldraw, as it will allow you to resize without losing details, or distorting the image.
The best paper for laser printing is from Tango Papa.

While on that page, also check out their excellent tutorial on making your own decals, called (oddly enough) Making your own decals 101.

Phred, I'd really like a set of decals in my old dealerships markings for my new dirt modified body, how much would something like that run to design and print?

Here's how to making your own decals. You have to make sure the paper you get works with inkjet printers. The biggest problem with inkjet printers is they don't do white so you will either need to print them out on white decal paper or use white decal paper or white paint as a background.
