View Full Version : Lafayette, IN track going carpet
clodman765 12-03-2008, 10:09 PM In order to have a wider appeal and more diverse building usage, the dirt oval is being removed and a carpet surface being installed. The track should reopen no later than 12-13, but I will update on progress.
We will offer racing and other activities as supporters step forward. Onroad, offroad, figure 8, rock crawling, airplane pylon racing and oval racing are all being planned with workshops, building classes and club meetings also in the works.
Several spec racing classes, following regional and national formats will be our core focus, but we will also continue our old classes, as long as there is interest.
We will keep you posted of dates and further info, and welcome everyone to visit our track and on-site hobby shop.

smokefan 12-04-2008, 10:36 PM Sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !
kevinf 12-05-2008, 02:28 PM hey larry im happy about the change. im hope it gose over well.
smokefan 12-05-2008, 05:56 PM What classes are being planned and is there going to be any onroad offered
How about pancars????
trerc 12-05-2008, 06:35 PM Hey Jerry, Classes that will be starting out will be mainly 1/18th mod truck, Mod Slider, Stock slider, 10th scale stadium truck, Figure 8 (Legends). Pan Car is still in the air as most of the locals don't have pan cars, as always 3 cars makes a class.
We would like to at some point maybe get interest in doing Wednesday nights again by doing some road course and running a VTA class but that will be to come.
Rules for the classes are being discussed but for the most part they are what you would expect from what I can see. The VTA class I know is going to be by the book. We are trying to find a middle ground with the legends I think for the most part we will be on the same page as Indy Slots on the rules with the exception of the battery rule. We would like to run the Spec 4 cell pack to keep the class cheap. The rules for BRP will be similar to what your use to as well
Any input will be appreciated...
Scott04C5 12-05-2008, 07:06 PM I am so ready for this.

If you run VTA on Saturday or Sunday, guys from Indy Slots will probably come on up. We race VTA on friday and have been averaging 17-20 every Friday for that class alone.

Great idea on the battery rule.

One suggestion, on the same night you run VTA you could run a Tamiya Mini-Cooper class running strict 2009 TCS rules as well. It is a VERY fun class, only a little slower than VTA, and quite cheap to get into and be competitive. I have seen people buy a RTR car, charge a battery pack, and finish right in the middle of the pack in the same night.

Excellent. We are thinking of maybe running VTA and other road course classes on Sundays but nothing concrete on that at the moment. Up until now the track and hobby shop has always been closed on Sundays, so we'll see what happens. I know that a lot of the local guys have said something about wanting to run on Sundays instead of Wednesday so it's a definite possibility.
johnnyhacksaw 12-07-2008, 10:58 PM what's the size of this track going to be? glad to see another carpet track in the making guy's! :woohoo:

The track is 69'x36'. The surface is Calandra Racing Concepts Fasttrak HD Ozite. AMB scoring system.
lets see some pictures
I will try to get some pictures posted sometime this week.

Bear with us while we get our classes going. Also we don't have a lot of on road/pan car parts in the shop just yet as we are making a transition from dirt to carpet, in time that will change.
Lugnutz 12-08-2008, 09:36 AM If you could do VTA on Saturday that would be great.
trerc 12-08-2008, 10:05 AM We will be running our oval classes and Legend figure 8 on Saturday nights. VTA and on road classes will likely be done on Sundays.
ckimble1 12-08-2008, 01:52 PM I would like to see road course on Wednesday or Saturday as Jtec is running on Sundays and HCRC is running electric indoor off-road on Sunday. I want turnouts to be big and I think you will be loosing some drivers if you run Sunday. I’m glad the carpet is in and will be over to try it out this week. Thanks to all that helped change the track over to carpet. As far as classes go I have a T4 foam tires 10.5/lipo, VTA 21.5/lipo and 1/10 TC foam tires 7.5/lipo.

I too would like to see big turnouts. As I mentioned nothing is concrete on Sundays at the moment. I know we won't be running oval or figure 8 on Sundays because that would conflict with Indy Slots oval and figure 8 program and I know that's not what we're looking to do. Wednesdays could be a very realistic possibility if we can generate enough interest to get decent turnouts on Wednesday nights. I think once we get in the swing of things and get some input things will fall into place.
Any other input or thoughts guys...?

They will be the same Jason, I've been talking with Mike a watching the thread but thanks for posting them here I will be sure to copy them and post them at the track. What's the rule on claiming a motor?
smokefan 12-08-2008, 10:06 PM BRP is non matched battery packs.
Railroader 12-08-2008, 10:14 PM What's the rule on claiming a motor?
I believe a standard rule at Slots is you need to buy the motor at retail and there needs to be one from the shop new in package.
trerc 12-09-2008, 12:33 AM BRP is non matched battery packs.
Thanks Jerry, I saw that change and will make sure that it is clearly posted in the rules.

I would agree that this would be the best way to do it. Are you guys finding that the 45t spur allows enough gear for larger tracks? I know that series allows the use of the BRP 52t spur gear as well.
surfer kev 12-09-2008, 12:46 AM are you planning on doing any practice days on oval/roadcourse so we can get track time and i'm from indy what kind of hours will you be open. thanks

Track opens at 1 p.m. Saturday for practice, racing starts at 6. Plenty of pit space available, bring a stool ;) We will just be starting out with oval and figure 8. Road course in the coming weeks once we decide a day and all that.

52t would be way too slow. They are slow enough as it is with only 4-cells and 45t spur.
If we were running 6-cells, we might go with allowing spur changes.

Motor Claim: After the main a racer can claim a motor after from a fellow racers car by purchasing and presenting that racer with a new in package Associated #21210 370 motor in trade for the motor that is being claimed.
Sound good?
fozzy767 12-09-2008, 01:15 PM after the main is over
Railroader 12-09-2008, 01:29 PM Indeed.
nutz4rc 12-09-2008, 01:49 PM I bought my packs from BRP and they are matched so I guess that leaves me out. Oh well.
I ran against a guy with another BRP and he had non-matched cells and was just as fast as my matched, so I don't think it matters. But I am not going to buy more packs to meet these rules. I will run at my local track and use the matched BRP packs.
trerc 12-09-2008, 02:42 PM Fixed
fozzy767 12-09-2008, 03:39 PM cool...clark was tryin to take mine b4 the main,,uh uh then i may have to regear

When this class was first thought of we went with non matched packs so that guys where not spending $25+ dollars for matched packs. We bought our packs for $13.00 built with deans plugs, this is suppose to be a cheap fun class. Huffer don't give these guys idea's!!!!!!!!

Adim_X 12-10-2008, 12:56 AM I live in Lafayette and dont race oval, so I have never spent much time at your track. I am most interested in running VTA road course and 1/12 road course. Sundays are best for me and 3 of my other local friends. Weeknights arent the best, and why would anyone want to travel to your track on a weeknight. I hope you guys get the road course up and going because most of the classes now, sound like the same stuff you had before, minus the dirt.
trerc 12-10-2008, 08:42 AM I hope you guys get the road course up and going because most of the classes now, sound like the same stuff you had before, minus the dirt.
We will be working on the road course in the coming weeks. We never ran figure 8 on dirt and as far as the oval racing goes... Yeah that's kind of what the last track was all about, lol.
You'll just have to bear with us while we make the transition to carpet locally. A lot of the parts in the shop aren't on road or pan car parts but then again most of the local guys that race here don't have on road cars or pan cars either, not yet anyway. Like I said this is a transitional period for the track, the shop, and the local racers.
Also, the road course will likely be run on Sundays as we have already tried racing on weeknights in the past with little success. I for one generally can't make Wednesday nights in the summer with work and all. So I agree that Sundays will be much better. I will talk with Larry and keep everyone posted..
Railroader 12-10-2008, 11:19 AM ... and why would anyone want to travel to your track on a weeknight. ...
We had 40 people last night at Slots. On a Tuesday.
We'll have 10-15 people just practicing on a Thursday.
Wednesdays sees 6-8 guys racing 1/12th. Very dedicated crowd.
I'd drive up to Lafayette pretty much any days other than Friday and Sunday.

Adim_X 12-10-2008, 04:16 PM I am glad you two would be happy to drive and race on a weeknight.
See ya on Sundays.
Adim_X 12-10-2008, 04:28 PM Is there anyone interested in running 1/12 scale on the road course? I have a VTA car and am contemplating building a 1/12 scale to run. I know they are kind of having a slight resurgence in popularity. For the road course have you guys thought of any rules? It would be nice to have for instance a 13.5 rubber tire sedan class, since that is being pushed at some other tracks up north.
huffrcman 12-10-2008, 04:35 PM We ran figure 8 on the dirt, but it was when Sean owned the track.
