View Full Version : Tomy GT40 body on xtraction chassis?
BRPHO 11-25-2008, 10:37 AM Hi guys!
Question????
Will the new Tomy GT40 bodies fit on the xtraction chassis out currently?
What about the tomy chaparral and cobra daytona bodies, will they fit xtraction chassis also?
Reason being, I have a tomy srt GT40 and it is way too fast for my size track layout.
I'm thinking about putting the GT40 body on an xtraction chassis but do not know whether it will fit or not????
Any help is appreciated!!!!
Thanks!

twolff 11-25-2008, 11:56 AM I don't have a GT40 yet, but the Chapprral and the Cobra are very tight and sit a bit nose high on the Magnatraction and only a little better on the XTraction. I'll try to remember to take some photos to post tonight.

You can run the AFX SRT/ Racing Turbo slot cars without the rear traction magnet at a reduced track voltage (12 to 14 volts). The cars are a lot of fun to run this way and drive much more like the larger 1/32 cars that are less “stuck down“.
Best regards,

BRPHO 11-25-2008, 07:14 PM Hey Guys!
Thanks for the info!!!!
I like the idea of turning down the voltage and running them without magnets.
Unfortunately I have a life like 4 lane track utilizing the set power packs which I can't turn down the voltage on.
Now I have toyed with the idea of buying 2 of the new tomy tripower packs and splicing them into my current track connections of life like and having the ability of adjusting the voltage to the 3 different settings that the tripower pack allows you too.
I thought the easiest way would be to just put the gt40 body on an xtraction chassis which I have yet to try.......
Thanks for helping me out with all the good info guys!

It was on the AW GT40s. It is ok on the Tomy Cobra. No way on the Chapprral. This is the early AW XTraction chassis that came with the Ford GT bodies. Lots of slop in the front axle and tall wide fronts.
The Fast and Furious era JL XTractions work (pics below), but both bodies sit a bit nose high as they do on an Aurora Magnatraction. They look ok until you see the body on an SRT.
BRPHO 11-25-2008, 09:52 PM Thanks for the pics!
I'm not that particular and I think they look fine for what my needs are.
I had forgot that the dash '70 camaro I have has one of the JL mopar xtraction chassis under it.
I tried putting it under my Tomy GT40 and it fit fine.....
I guess I answered my own question along with you posting pics of the other tomy cars on the xtraction chassis also.
Thank you for your help and the pics!
They were very useful in answering my questions.
I really do appreciate it!!!!
Now time to hunt down some of those tomy bodies to put xtraction chassis under!!!!

resinmonger 11-25-2008, 10:26 PM Another option would be to swap the SRT chassis for a regular Turbo chassis. These are not as fast. You could also swap out the SRT's Neo traction magnets for the traction magnets from the regular Turbo. Most on-line dealers offer the chassis and magnets.:hat:
twolff 11-25-2008, 10:34 PM Cobra in the pic can be for sale. Heck, so can the Chapprral. PM me if you're serious.
BRPHO 11-26-2008, 08:44 AM twolff, You have a PM!
Thanks!

Twolff (and anyone else wondering), the early AW chassis are the same ones as the 2nd rel Mopars/1st rel DoH chassis they cranked out. Those cars came with rear axles up front, which meant larger axle holes up front. When the next 3 XT came, they used the same chassis but went back to the thinner independant fronts. Which means extra slop and front wheel rub on the fenders.
Some filled in the holes with various substances, but if you want to go a different way, you can use a Thunderjet/TO front axle, ream out the front rims (or use rear rims, ream one out a little). This will get rid of the slop and tires won't rub.
micyou03 11-26-2008, 10:06 PM I was a diehard T-Jet and X-Traction/Magna-Traction kinda guy, until I tried the SRT with the magnets removed at like 15 volts. They are really a blast, and run very smoothly.
SwamperGene 11-26-2008, 11:13 PM We did it backwards on one of Ed's (sethndaddy's) cars, running an AW GT40 on an SRT chassis and it sat pretty nice...had to grind out the back edge of the front bumper for shoe clearance so I'd imagine the swap might go the other way.
