View Full Version : Muscle-Cars Release 3
1 Stop Diecast 11-22-2008, 11:31 PM These are very cool and should change up a few displays:
Have you been to the car shows lately? If you frequently do, you probably noticed the SKYHOODS……, equipped on the baddest muscle cars.
This assemblage of the hood elevated on steel rod supports, is a totally cool, aesthetically pleasing, and a perfectly functional way to allow a 360 degree view of the engines that power those much loved, forever classic, muscle cars.
For the first time ever in 1:64 die-cast, M2 Machines brings you SKYHOODS as only M2 Machines can.

harristotle 11-23-2008, 09:01 AM Thanks for the pics  I'm glad to finally see they did a Mustang, just looking forward to a picture now.
DCPDGUY 11-23-2008, 06:15 PM What I find wierd is they show the 70 Bee and it's not in the set. Otherwise neat idea.
Major Nelson 11-24-2008, 12:03 AM These will be awesome. Can't wait to see what the Mustangs will look like. I really dig this new brand. I have a few of the first Series of 50's cars. Too bad we still can't find them in Canada.
zed300 11-24-2008, 12:02 PM I'm not crazy about the casting choices. In my opinion, these cars have been overdone, and I would have liked to see some more unusual choices (like they did with the 50s cars). However, seeing these with the "skyhood", I may just have to pick a couple up.
FLOYDFROG 11-24-2008, 06:11 PM The only lift-off hoods I would like to see would be the A12 option on '69 RoadRunners & Super Bees.
Being a traditionalist I'm still a little 'iffy' on the sky-hoods, we'll see if love blossoms once I get my hands on one.

I think I have to agree with you on this one. My other question is, if this is release 3, what is in release 2? I don't remember seeing anything on a 2nd release. Anyone have any idea?
BluntFronts 11-25-2008, 12:42 PM I don't see why they can't offer them with loose stock hoods (maybe a hidden click-on feature at the cowl) with a detachable one-piece molded plastic piece that incorporates the four "sky-hood" poles.
I don't like the bumps that show through the hood. Real "sky-hood" cars don't have those, do they?
As it looks so far, unfortunately, these just aren't for me, and I've been a huge fan and purchaser of M2s so far.
While I appreciate creative innovations, first and foremost I want my diecast models to be clean and realistic.
If a company decides to offer this custom hood configuration, then the models at least ought to be displayable normally, too. Why not?

Real sky hoods do have "bumps" visible on the top. With the exception of the Mustang, the other 2 cars listed were available in Release 1, so they could be displayed as normal that way. The only thing I can see as being unrealistic on them is maybe the height which they are raised, but that isn't necessarily unrealistic either.

BluntFronts 11-25-2008, 04:00 PM Thanks for the pic - I'd only seen a couple of those hoods years ago, and I didn't remember whether or not they had the bumps (Shoulda just googled I guess!)
Still don't like 'em, though. I wouldn't drill holes in my hood just to prop it up like that. Even with the hoods down the bumps don't look good to me.
(I never liked the hood pins/locks of the sixties either - there was never any need for strong hood locks to mess up the good looks of the cars.)
Lummox 11-25-2008, 04:55 PM Harristotle has a good point. Do sky hoods really sit up as high as depicted on these GL cars?
Judging by the foto of that fine Fal-coon, they do not.
I walk right past row after row of cars like this at car shows.
I'll be doing the same thing with these.
As always though, I hope they sell well so M2 can afford to tool up many more cars that AREN'T overdone....or more so done at all.
I'm also glad to see Mustangs being made by M2. Can't wait to see what they look like. I assume the '70 casting was done forst because there is so much that can be done with it: Mach 1, Boss 302, Boss 429, Twister special, etc...
