Only had it three years, only used it three times. Has maybe 10 hours use total.

6 HP B&S OHV engine. Ignition is on, there is fuel, spark plug is clean and plugged in, red emergency switch (remove to kill) is in place.

Tried various positions of choke and no start. It always started on first or second pull in previous years. Some gas coming out of the exhaust when I first tried so I assumed it was flooded. Pulled plug and cleaned with torch and let it sit.

Still no start. Could the year-old gas be keeping it from starting?

Any other great ideas or trouble-shooting? Please help.

Thanks!

The year old gas is definitly a problem, drain it and get new gas, not new from the can that has sat for a year, new from the station. If after new gas it doesn't start we can go from there. If it does start I would suggest putting some Sea Foam or Cheveron Techron in the tank to help clean up after the old gas. Have a good one. Geo

Check for spark, mice love to build their nests in engine shrouds and destroy ignition wire and coils. You said you noticed gas coming out of the muffler so check your oil for a gasoline smell. get back to us :)

I'll get new gas tomorrow and let you know. Definitely not mice. Everything is clean as a whistle under the shroud and spark plug wire is as new.

With Techron and fresh gas it started right-up. However as I first poured the gas in it looked as if it was hitting the hard surface (i.e. the gas tank bottom) and not liquid (i.e. fuel already in the tank). This leads me to believe that the tank was either empty or so close to empty that it couldn't draw fuel. When I looked in before I saw what appeared to be the sheen of fluid in the tank which led me to believe it had gas, but it may have been either the film of old gas dried on the tank bottom or just a few ounces lying where it could not be drawn in. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions.
