View Full Version : whats the trick to the inverted gtb's? burbs 11-22-2008, 08:33 AM I have heard this in reference to them for a while. whats the deal with them and can i see some pics. Thanks Seven 11-22-2008, 09:05 AM I have heard this in reference to them for a while. whats the deal with them and can i see some pics. Thanks The Stryker has the GTB bolt pattern on the speedo pad so the GTB can be bolted upside down to the chassis, which means the wires have to be inverted. Here's a picture of one that's for sale in the oval section. http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/showthread.php?t=234539 http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii292/qwsdr/11-8004.jpg Porksalot4L 11-22-2008, 09:31 AM is it basicly just a different way of mounting it? is there advantage or disadvantage to it? i guess no need for double sided tape :) reggie's dad 11-22-2008, 10:14 AM If thats a 4/cell with a metal cap the graphite will conduct heat away..... don't know how hot a 4/cell gtb gets??? :dude: swtour 11-22-2008, 11:56 AM they are not the 4 cell generally, they are the regular GTB's with the stuff inverted so the HEAT SINK is on the bottom (with the custom Big Boys Toys heatsink) The chassis is cut out and the heat sink sits flush with the bottom of the chassis (lowering CG a little) and letting airflow UNDER THE CAR flow over the heatsink, instead of using trapped air in the body as cooling. It was just one of the things Scot Petitclerc has been playing with on the STRYKER chassis' katf1sh 11-23-2008, 11:27 PM funny how they lower the center of gravity via the esc and not worry about the heaviest componet mounted in the car? the lipo pack! things that make me go hmmmmmmmm jblackburn 11-24-2008, 01:33 PM I'm pretty sure the goal wasn't to lower the cg ... just an added benefit. The main benefit should be cooling. Mullins21 11-24-2008, 01:40 PM WHAT ABOUT THE HEAT THAT RISES AND IS TRAPPED IN THAT PLASTIC CASE WITH THE LITTLE CIRCUIT BOARDS. THOUGHT THATS WHY HEATSINKS WERE ON TOP (((( )))) lllllllllll jblackburn 11-24-2008, 02:07 PM Heat transfer goes from hot -> cold. Not always up. Heatsinks are up because in the past it is much better to have them up than servo taped to the chassis. napolean 11-24-2008, 04:15 PM The inverted GTB was done for two reasons: 1) and most important, the wires now go in order, direct to the motor and are short. 2) the SC is screwed to the chassis for solid and easy mounting, no tape. It does have a nice heat sink, and the last time I looked, most don't even use one! LARCGuy 11-24-2008, 04:34 PM funny how they lower the center of gravity via the esc and not worry about the heaviest componet mounted in the car? the lipo pack! things that make me go hmmmmmmmm I ran our new lipo hold down at the Oval Masters. Instead of using a square retainer/locater screwed on top of the chassis, we lowered the battery into the chassis. Worked very well. Slots are for the Orion's and any other bumps on the bottom lipo's and the chassis cutout now holds SMC and other flat bottomed lipo's. swtour 11-24-2008, 04:55 PM I'm not sure, but I assume this is Blaser's car. It was a pick he sent me from LINDSAY http://southwesttour.com/images/Stryker_batt_straps.jpg I like this, I've always liked straps. Hudson Hornet ! 11-25-2008, 09:10 AM Makes it a little difficult to program the esc, does'nt it? WLMaye 11-25-2008, 09:22 AM I ran our new lipo hold down at the Oval Masters. Scot you got a pic of that setup or is like the pic that SWTour put up? Bill LARCGuy 11-25-2008, 02:51 PM Scot you got a pic of that setup or is like the pic that SWTour put up? Bill The car in the picture above is mine. I will post a more clear picture in the Stryker thread a bit later. LARCGuy 11-25-2008, 02:54 PM Makes it a little difficult to program the esc, does'nt it? Not at all. I would say better in fact. The led's are in the back towards the top. Very easy to see. Tshirt Man 11-26-2008, 10:24 PM I'm not sure, but I assume this is Blaser's car.
